Non-Fiction Spotlight of the Week: In Pieces by Sally Field
Sally Field’s In Pieces is not the kind of celebrity memoir that feels written to polish a legacy. It is intimate, painful, funny, and remarkably honest: a woman looking back at the experiences that shaped her and trying to understand how all those pieces became the person she is. That honesty makes the book especially meaningful when remembering her alongside Dolly Parton, her Steel Magnolias costar. The two women brought very different lives and personalities to the screen, but shared the same warmth, humor, and ability to make difficult stories feel deeply human. Reading Field’s memoir now is also a reminder of the kind of people Dolly surrounded herself with: talented women who could be strong, vulnerable, funny, and completely themselves.
