Today, our Senior Leadership Team came together for a valuable Lunch & Learn focused on building stronger, more effective teamwork through the lessons shared in the book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni.

During the session, each team member participated in a short, rating scale-style assessment designed to provide insight into where our team currently falls within the five key categories of team dynamics. The discussion sparked thoughtful conversations about trust, accountability, communication, and collaboration — all vital components of a successful organization.

These types of team-building opportunities are essential in providing superior leadership to our staff and, in turn, delivering excellence to the community we proudly serve.

🚑🚑🚑Happy EMS week

To celebrate EMS Week, ESD 3 staff prepared a delicious breakfast taco spread as a gesture of gratitude for the EMS crews in Bastrop County. We even made a few deliveries to those who couldn’t make it to us. We can’t thank the EMS crews enough.

What if there were a magical object you could display in front of your house that would reduce misdelivery of your packages and speed up arrival when you call for pizza, EMS, the Fire Department or Police?

This magical object exists! It is a sign with your address. You probably need three of them.

Facing each direction of travel, where responders' headlights will reach

Front of your house – especially if there are multiple structures

Bastrop County will make highly-visible signs with residents' 9-1-1 address for $5 each. Grab the form and order yours today.https://www.bastropcounty.gov/upload/shared/DevServices/ADDRESS%20SIGN%20ORDER%20FORM.pdf

Executive Director Allen Johnson Addresses Lost Pines Republican Women on EMS Transition

Last night, Executive Director and EMS Chief Allen Johnson presented an update on the transition of EMS services from Acadian to local oversight under Bastrop County ESD #3, scheduled for October 1st.

The group engaged deeply with the presentation, with more than half the meeting devoted to an extended question‑and‑answer session. Attendees asked direct, thoughtful questions about finances, taxes, and long‑term sustainability. They expressed strong appreciation for the District’s conservative fiscal approach, transparent planning, and commitment to strengthening EMS for the community.

Allen was warmly received, and the efforts underway to build a locally governed, community‑aligned EMS system were applauded. The group offered encouragement and voiced their support for the transition, noting they look forward to the service launch and to future updates as progress continues.

🎉ESD3 Announces New Communications Manager

It seems fitting that during National Telecommunicators Week, Bastrop County ESD #3 announces that Nichole Kuhlmann will join our senior leadership team in May to serve as our Communications Center Manager. Nichole is an accomplished communications leader known for her expertise and endorsed by trusted professional references.

Nichole is wrapping up a successful tenure as the Communications Manager for the City of Schertz, dispatching law enforcement, EMS, and Fire. In that role, she led a staff of 16 full-time and three part-time telecommunicators, handing over 100,000 requests for assistance annually for the combined departments and jurisdictions. Nichole has been in Schertz since 2004. She served as a supervisor from 2008-2021 when she was promoted to Manager.

Nichole successfully managed through the rapid growth in Schertz and the surrounding communities and is excited to apply what she has learned as she builds something special in our community. Nichole will begin assembling a team of twelve telecommunicators to answer 911 requests for medical assistance and manage the Bastrop County EMS system. She will also kick-off and lead the implementation of the new computer aided dispatch system.

Nichole built a successful Communications Center team in Schertz. She rode the wave of growth, scaling the system to keep up with the community’s evolving needs. This experience will serve us well and the opportunity to build a new center and scale once again attracted her to Bastrop County.

Nichole has a BS in Criminal Justice and her Master Telecommunicator certification, EMD and several other respected industry credentials.
