The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management seeks to promote a safer, less vulnerable County with the capacity to cope with disasters and emergencies. The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management provides leadership, coordination and support for efforts to prevent, prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate against natural and man-made disasters. In times of evacuation due to emergency, follow instructions from first-responders who are on scene. Stay tuned to local radio or television stations for additional emergency or disaster information. Bastrop County's social media accounts are a moderated online presentation of information, news and comments and are not a public forum. They are not forums for banter and debate of ideas. Monday (09/07), Hillary Long, The Bastrop County Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator, shared 𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗽 #𝟭: 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗬 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧𝗦.

She reminded us to sign up for emergency notifications through WARN CENTRAL TEXAS by going to https://warncentraltexas.org/.

She also talked about the importance of keeping our emergency alerts turned on for our smartphones. There are many resources on the web to guide you in turning on smartphone emergency alerts. General instructions are included here with two helpful links:

I'm Hilary Long, your Bastrop County Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator.

I am honored to serve the people of Bastrop County every single day through my work at the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management.

This month is National Preparedness Month,
and today I am here to talk with you about some easy
ways that you can make sure that you are receiving
emergency alerts and staying informed.

Receiving emergency alerts and staying informed could
save your life and the lives of the ones you love.

One way you can stay informed and receive emergency alerts
is by signing up for WARN Central Texas.

It takes less than a minute, and by signing up you can receive local alerts by phone, email, and text.

Another easy way to stay informed is by checking your smartphone settings to make sure your emergency alerts are turned on.

If you don't know how to check the emergency alert settings
on your phone, don't worry. There are resources on the web that can provide simple to follow instructions. And of course you can always reach out to us for help.

Your Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Team and Emergency Management Partners work all year to mitigate, plan, prepare, respond to and recover from disasters.

The OEM Team participated in community outreach at the Bastrop Regional Chamber of Commerce Luncheon Wednesday (09/02). Becki Womble, the Bastrop Regional Chamber President/CEO, introduced James Altgelt, Bastrop County Emergency Management Coordinator, who asked attendees how they stay informed during emergencies. With September being National Emergency Preparedness Month, Altgelt shared how the OEM communicates with the public and provides public education information throughout the year as well as information leading up to, during, and after severe weather and emergencies.

Training with local, regional, and state partners helps us respond to emergencies and disasters as a unified team.

Your Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) Team and Emergency Management Partners work all year to mitigate, plan, prepare, respond to and recover from disasters.

The OEM Team, in collaboration with the leadership from the Bastrop County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), came together Tuesday (09/1) for their third planning session leading up to the Basic Community Emergency Response Team Training Course (G-317) that will be held in Bastrop Friday (09/18) through Sunday (09/20). The G-317 Training Course is a course that teaches citizens basic skills to help with emergencies before additional professional responders arrive.

CERT meets monthly, the third Tuesday, at 6 PM. We meet at the Mike Fisher Building, 1501 Business Park Drive, Bastrop.
