Bassett Historic Train Depot The Train Station - one of our
greatest treasures - became the
hub of downtown life in Bassett
in 1892.

It began as a wooden
building which was destroyed by
fire in 1922 and replaced by the
present structure.

The Circle of Hope of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church will be at the Bassett Community Market tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be selling homemade vegetable soup, chili beans, pinto beans, onions, and cornbread. Eat in or Take Out !!!!!

We have been having the community market for several weeks on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Produce has not been available yet because crops need more rain and time to grow. We do have some vendors with very nice baked goods, canned goods, and crafts. Also, it is just nice to come have lunch and visit with friends and neighbors. Hope to see you there!!!

Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. 11:00 til 3:00. Parade at 2:00 featuring our wonderful award winning Bassett High School Marching Band. Rumor has it that Santa Claus may drop in from the North Pole. And those wonderful elves from Ferrum better known as After Jack may be dropping by also. There will be food and fun and hot chocolate. Everybody dress warmly (in the event the temperature drops) and show up. See you there!!!!

Great day in Bassett. The Red Hat ladies met at the station for lots of fun and fellowship. The ladies of the Bassett Rescue Squad served delicious barbecue for lunch. The Joyful Sound fellows sang for us and as usual they were wonderful. There were many folks there to listen. Then this evening we had so much fun. The place was full of many friends and neighbors and lots of folks with instruments to play music for us. Every chair was full and many people standing, singing along and clapping.

Don't miss Bassett Heritage Day on Saturday, Sept 10. Music will be provided by the Cana Ramblers from 11:30 to 1:30. The Old Dominion Cloggers wil be dancing and everyone is invited to bring their dancing shoes and join in. You may also want to bring a folding chair in the event you need to rest between dances.
There will be historic exhibits and collections in the train station, SAR encampment, remote control airplane exhibit, GBAC display, parade at 2:00, and
much more.
