Last week, we wrapped up our first Justice & Advocacy Academy.

Fifteen high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates joined us for an immersive look at advocacy and its role in the criminal justice system. Throughout the week, students participated in court observations, toured local facilities, and learned about crime scene investigation through a CSI presentation.

It was week of learning, exploration, and meaningful conversations about justice, advocacy, and community impact. Thank you to everyone who made this inaugural Academy a success. We can't wait to welcome our next group of students in July!

Today we celebrate Flag Day and the adoption of the American flag on June 14, 1777. Our flag represents the ideals upon which our nation was founded: liberty, justice, and the rule of law. As public defenders, we believe that the Constitution and the rights it guarantees belong to every person, and protecting those rights helps strengthen the principles our flag represents.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of Miranda v. Arizona, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that established the requirement that individuals be informed of their constitutional rights before custodial interrogation. The Miranda warning is more than a phrase heard on television; it is a safeguard that helps protect the constitutional rights of every person accused of a crime. As public defenders, we remain committed to protecting those rights and ensuring that the promise of justice applies to everyone.

Please join us in welcoming our 2026 summer law school interns. These five law students will be gaining hands-on experience in criminal defense and serving our community alongside our dedicated team. Throughout the summer, they will have the opportunity to observe court proceedings, assist with case preparation, and learn firsthand what it means to advocate for clients and uphold the constitutional right to counsel.

We are excited to have them with us and look forward to helping shape the next generation of public servants. Welcome to the PD10 team!
