The Holiday Enforcement Period will take place from Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m. through Monday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m. During this time, CHP officers will be conducting focused enforcement efforts to address reckless driving and promote seat belt safety for all occupants.

One decision can change everything.

A seat belt may seem small, but in a crash, it can mean the difference between life and death. Too many lives are lost every year because someone chose not to buckle up.

Buckle up. Every seat. Every trip. Every time.

Yesterday, we had the honor of attending the Caltrans District 8 Memorial, standing alongside Caltrans District 8 and our partners to remember and honor those who gave their lives in service to keeping our roadways safe.

Assistant Chief Branconier along with CHP leadership from across the region came together in support, reflecting on the sacrifices made and the responsibility we all share to protect those working on our highways.

As the Inland Empire continues to see significant road improvements, we want to remind everyone that these work zones are active, and lives are on the line.

Slow down for the cone zone. Move over when you see emergency lights.

The California Highway Patrol will be actively patrolling with enhanced enforcement in construction zones to protect workers and the public.

Every cone represents someone’s life. Let’s do our part to make sure everyone goes home safely.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Barstow Area, in partnership with the Barstow Police Department, will conduct a Sobriety/Driver License Checkpoint in the Barstow area of San Bernardino County on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 5:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M. The checkpoint will be located on eastbound Main Street, east of Avenue J. This initiative aims to enhance roadway safety by identifying impaired drivers and raising public awareness about the risks of driving under the influence. Uniformed officers trained in the detection of alcohol or drug impairment will utilize handheld blood alcohol testing devices to ensure accuracy during screenings. All motorists passing through the checkpoint will be evaluated, and those suspected of impairment will undergo further assessment. Individuals found to be under the influence will be arrested and their vehicles impounded. This effort reflects the commitment of CHP, Barstow Police Department, and statewide law enforcement to the strict enforcement of impaired driving laws. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
