On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at approximately 8:51 P.M., Barstow Police officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop in the 800 block of W. Main St. on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation.

Officers contacted the driver, identified as 42-year-old Barstow resident Antonio Hollis, and the passenger, identified as 35-year-old Los Angeles resident Dandre Sanders. Officers directed Sanders to exit the vehicle, and when doing so, he reached for his waistband. Officers quickly controlled Sanders and conducted a pat down and located a loaded firearm concealed on his person, which was later determined to be registered to him, but he did not possess a CCW.

Hollis also admitted to having a firearm in his center console. Hollis was discovered to be prohibited from possessing a firearm and found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

Sanders was arrested and booked for PC 25850(a) - Carrying a loaded firearm in public. Hollis was arrested and booked for PC 29800(a)(1) – Prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and H&S 11370.1(a) - Possession of a controlled substance while armed.

On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 8:19 P.M., Barstow Police officers responded to a report of grand theft at Walmart.

Walmart Loss Prevention reported to officers that approximately 20 minutes prior, a black male adult entered the store, selected three Ninja-brand Slushie machines, removed the security devices, and exited without paying. The total loss was estimated to be over $1000.

The suspect left the area in a black Kia SUV. Officers collected surveillance video and continued the investigation to identify and locate the suspect.

While responding to a separate call for service, officers recognized the black Kia SUV driving in an apartment complex, in the 500 block of E. Virginia Way. When the driver, later identified as 19-year-old San Bernardino resident Gery Gray, saw the officers in the area, he quickly parked and exited along with other subjects. Officers contacted Gray, who matched the suspect from the Walmart theft, and detained him. As officers contacted the other subjects who had exited the vehicle, Gray suddenly ran from them. Officers chased after Gray but briefly lost sight of him.

Officers contained the area, continued investigating the incident, located Gray in a nearby apartment, and arrested him. Officers also towed the Kia, and during the vehicle search, one of the three stolen Ninja-brand Slushies was located and later returned to Walmart.

Gray was booked at the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto for PC 4532 (s)(2)- Attempt to Escape Custody, PC 459 – Burglary, PC 487(a) – Grand Theft, and PC 69(a) – Resisting an Officer.

Today, Chief Christopher Kirby, Captain Daniel Arthur, Lieutenant Frank Benitez, Corporal Eric Santos, and Officer Anthony Zamora participated in the annual San Bernardino County Peace Officer Memorial Service.

Every year the service pays tribute to law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

As we take the time to remember the fallen, we would also like to remember the families, team members and loved ones of our fallen heroes. We will forever be grateful for their service to our communities.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 8:30 P.M., Barstow Police officers responded to a call for service in the 800 block of W. Buena Vista Street regarding a brandishing.

Officers arrived, contacted multiple victims and witnesses, and conducted an investigation. The victims and witnesses identified the suspect as 61-year-old Barstow resident, Michael Fowler, who was still on scene.

Officers contacted and detained Fowler without incident. Officers received consent to search a residence in the 800 block of W. Buena Vista Street associated with Fowler. During the search, officers recovered an unregistered black Mossberg, 12-gauge shotgun. Fowler was arrested and transported to the Barstow Police Department.

Officers discovered that Fowler is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing any fi****ms.

Fowler was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto for PC 245(a)(2) – Assault with a firearm, and PC 29800(a)(1) – Felon in possession of a firearm.

The Barstow Police Department proudly hosted the Barstow Law Enforcement Shooting Competition on Friday, May 15, 2026. The event brought together personnel from the Barstow Police Department, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department - Barstow Station, the California Highway Patrol - Barstow Office, and the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Police Department for a day of competition, collaboration, and camaraderie.

The competition provided an opportunity for participating agencies to strengthen professional relationships, promote teamwork, and engage in friendly competition while showcasing firearm proficiency and officer readiness.

After a highly competitive day, the Marine Corps Logistics Base (MCLB) Police Department earned the Team Championship title. Barstow Police Department Officer Austin Jaramillo was recognized as the Overall Top Shot for his outstanding performance throughout the competition.
