Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard The last remaining Mounted Color Guard in the Marine Corps. Comprised of active duty Marines.

The Marines ride "Wild Mustangs" of palomino color, adopted from the Bureau of Land Management's " Adopt a Horse and B***o Program." The Color Guard travels across the country performing at rodeos, parades and ceremonies throughout the United States.

U.S. Marines with the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard participated in meet-and-greet engagements and presented the colors during physical training and sporting events at Audubon Park in New Orleans, May 30-31, 2026, in support of Sail 250 New Orleans. The events honored Marine Corps tradition while engaging with poolees, visitors and service members from across the nation and around the world in the city of New Orleans.

The Mounted Color Guard headed to MCB Camp Pendleton, May 1, to present the colors for the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, Change of Command ceremony.

The Mounted Color Guard is the Marine Corps’ only remaining mounted unit, based out of MCLB Barstow, California, supporting events nationwide.

Reno (first photo) is a 24-yr-old Mustang gelding standing at 15 hands who loves snacks and being the center of attention. Kitty (second) is our 20-yr-old Quarter Horse mare who has a sassy, playful personality standing at 15.1 hands.

After long and faithful careers with the Marine Corps Mounted Color Guard, we are proud to announce the retirement of Kitty (Marjah) and Reno (Bodfish). The adoption application period is now open from 5 March – 3 April 2026! Kitty (left) is our 20-year-old Quarter Horse mare who has a sassy, playful personality standing at 15.1 hands. Reno (right) is a 24-year-old Mustang gelding standing at 15 hands who loves snacks and being the center of attention.
