Barrackville PD April 2026 Report

In April, the Barrackville Police Department had 203 calls for service. Included was numerous dispatched calls, school zone details, requested speed enforcement patrols, and area patrols. The Department also conducted 19 traffic stops, which resulted in 6 citations and 1 arrest. We have noticed that speeds have been declining through town, especially through the school zone, with only 1 school zone citation being issued in April. Thank you to everyone that has been helping keep the community safe!

The Department also hired a police clerk to assist with court procedures and other administrative tasks.

Last night the Town of Barrackville hosted their Annual First Responder's Appreciation Dinner and we would like to thank everyone that made the event possible and was able to attend.

With the weather hopefully warming soon, we hope to see everyone out and about through Town this spring and summer. Thanks to everyone for the continued support!

Barrackville PD March 2026 Report

In March, the Department handled 240 Calls for Service. Included in those is numerous area patrols, business checks, school zone details and 57 traffic stops. Traffic stops resulted in 21 citations for various offenses, including 6 for speeding in school zone, and 2 arrests.

We are pleased to announce we have been approved to purchase a new patrol vehicle. We are hoping to have it in service sometime this summer, and will share updates as we can. The funds for this vehicle will come from the Police Protection Fee, so thank you to the citizens of Barrackville for putting the Department in a position to purchase a new, reliable, and custom for the needs of Barrackville, patrol vehicle that will give our officers the best ability to patrol, enforce traffic laws, and respond to calls in Barrackville and throughout the area as needed.

We would also like to thank the community, Town Council, Town Employees, especially the Town Clerk, and the Barrackville Fire Department for all of the continued help and support of building the Police Department. All of the progress made would not be possible without this community that we all feel grateful to be apart of!

Today, Bethesda Baptist is doing their Procession of the Cross and tomorrow there is an Easter Egg Hunt held by the Lions Club at the school. To ensure safety of all participating in the events, the Barrackville Police Department will be out enforcing traffic laws, especially speed, in the area of the events.

Thank you all for your help in making these events possible and safe! Happy Easter!

February 2026 Barrackville Police Report

Throughout February, the Barrackville Police Department had 210 calls for service. Included in those is 16 school zone details, 47 traffic stops, and numerous other calls including patrols and school security checks during the day. The 47 traffic stops resulted in 21 citations being issued for various offenses, including 6 citations from school zone speeding stops, and 2 arrests.

The Department has also received numerous complaints, as have other agencies throughout Marion County, about the driving of Sand Box trucks. Barrackville Officers have conducted numerous traffic stops on the trucks and have observed a decrease in their speed on Pike Street throughout the day. We will continue to enforce the traffic laws and have a focus on types of vehicles that have become nuisance violators when we see violations. Another frequent complaint has been large trucks using engine or jake brakes. As of this time, there is not an ordinance prohibiting their use within Barrackville Town Limits, but it is something the Town and Department are looking into to possibly add one in the future. From what was reported by others at the Town Council Meeting, the Sand Box trucks will be operating for 2 more months.

Thank you to everyone for sharing your concerns with the Department. Being a small department, we can only see the area we are currently in while we are there. Without the community's feedback, we do not know what is happening that we can not see and I greatly appreciate any assistance or comments so that we can address the issues. Thank you all for the continued support of the Department and our Officers!

Reminder to please slow down in the school zone when the lights are flashing. Over the past few weeks, officers have stopped and cited numerous speeders during school zone hours. Officers will also continue to work traffic control during school zone as able.

The Barrackville Police Department would also like to thank the parents and community members who have stepped up to assist with traffic when we have been unable to. The safety of the children in our community is a top priority and we are most effective when the Department and community work together as a team to accomplish it.
