In Memoriam: Retired Fire Chief Richard “Rich” Pauley

The Barnstable Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and members of the Wellfleet Fire Department on the passing of Retired Fire Chief Richard “Rich” Pauley.

Chief Pauley was not only a respected fire service leader, but also a valued friend to the Barnstable Fire Department and to so many of our members. His years of service to the Wellfleet community and his commitment to the fire service left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know and work alongside him.

The fire service is a unique family, and the friendships formed between departments and their members often last a lifetime. Chief Pauley was a part of that family, and his passing is felt well beyond the borders of Wellfleet.

We stand with our brothers and sisters of the Wellfleet Fire Department during this difficult time and offer our sincere sympathy to Chief Pauley’s family, friends, and loved ones.

Rest easy, Chief Pauley. Your service is complete. We’ll take it from here. 🚒🖤

🇺🇸 September 11th Day of Remembrance — 25th Anniversary 🇺🇸

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the attacks on America on September 11, 2001. The Barnstable Fire Department and Barnstable Police Department, in partnership with St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, invite the community to join us as we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honor the first responders who answered the call that day.

📅 Friday, September 11, 2026
📍 Barnstable Fire Department — 3249 Main Street
🕙 10:00 AM — Remembrance Ceremony

The ceremony will feature Barnstable Police Officer Brian Morrison (Ret.) as guest speaker. At 10:30 AM, a procession will proceed up Main Street to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, where a memorial service will begin at 10:45 AM. Michael Nelson, Manager of Cape Cod Gateway Airport and a former Logan Airport air traffic controller on 9/11, will serve as keynote speaker.

This year’s theme focuses on first responders, police officers, firefighters, flight crews, and air traffic controllers.

25 years later, we remember. We honor. We will never forget.

🚨 One Year of Progress: Celebrating One Year of Construction! 🚨

One year ago today, on August 28, 2025, the first trees came down and construction officially began on the new Barnstable Fire Station at 1841 Phinney’s Lane.

At the time, it was simply Day One, the beginning of a project that had taken years of planning, design, approvals, and hard work to bring to life.

Today, one year later, it is incredible to look back and see just how far we have come. What was once a wooded site has been transformed into a major construction project, with foundations, walls, retaining walls, structural steel, the training tower, apparatus bays, and countless other components now taking shape. Every week brings another milestone and another glimpse of the future home of the Barnstable Fire Department.

But this project is about much more than bricks, concrete, and steel. It is about investing in the future of our firefighters and the community we serve. This new facility has been designed to provide a safer, more functional, and modern home for our department while giving us the space and capabilities needed to serve the Barnstable Fire District for decades to come.

We are incredibly grateful to the voters and taxpayers of the Barnstable Fire District for their support and investment in this project. We also want to thank the many architects, engineers, contractors, project managers, committees, vendors, and community partners who have helped move this project forward.

And, most importantly, thank you to the members of the Barnstable Fire Department, past and present, whose dedication and commitment to serving this community made this project worth pursuing.

One year down. The future is taking shape. 🚒🏗️

We look forward to continuing to share the progress as we move closer to opening the doors of our new fire station.

The Barnstable Fire Department likes to recognize our members during the month of their anniversary with our department. This time its not a firefighter or officer we are recognizing. Today is Karen Hickey's anniversary with the Barnstable Fire Department. Karen works as our Confidential Executive Assistant to the Fire Chief. She has been with us for the last 12 years and we look forward to many more. It is an understatement to say that Karen is what makes this fire department better. Thank you Karen for all you do for us everyday.

🚒 A Major Milestone for the New Barnstable Fire Station! 🏗️

This week marked another HUGE milestone in the construction of the new Barnstable Fire Station as crews completed the concrete pour for the apparatus bays!

This massive operation required approximately 35 cement trucks and represents a significant step forward in bringing this state-of-the-art facility to reality. Seeing the apparatus bay floors take shape makes the vision of our new station feel more real than ever.

A very special thank you to retired photographer Steve Heaslip for capturing some incredible photographs of the concrete pour, along with some amazing aerial drone images of the project. His photographs provide a fantastic perspective on the size and progress of this project!

There is still plenty of work ahead, and we look forward to sharing more progress with our community as construction continues.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of the Barnstable Fire District voters and taxpayers who made this project possible. We’re getting closer every day! 🚒🏗️

More progress to come!

Kids Day 2026! 🚒👮‍♂️

Yesterday, the Barnstable Fire Department joined the other four fire districts in the Town of Barnstable, the Barnstable Police Department, and other public safety partners for the annual Kids Day Event at Barnstable High School!

We were excited to bring the SAFE Trailer and spend the day talking with kids and families about what to do in the event of a fire, the importance of having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and other important home safety tips. It was a great opportunity to connect with our community while helping teach some potentially life-saving lessons!

A big thank you to the Barnstable Police Department for organizing another fantastic Kids Day and to all of the families who came out to enjoy the event.

We’re always proud to be part of events that bring our public safety agencies and community together! ❤️🚒🇺🇸
