A resident received a call from someone claiming to be from The Iowa County Sheriff's Office claiming they had a warrant because they missed federal jury duty and needed bail $ to cancel the warrant. This was an attempted scam. They were sent the attached photo.

Neither the Sheriff's Office or the court system works this way. If you receive a call like this, please call law enforcement or the Iowa County Courthouse and verify with them.

Do not give out personal or financial information over the phone.

Lets talk about E-Bikes and electric Scooters!

In Wisconsin, e-bikes with motors ≤ 750 watts are classified as bicycles, requiring no driver's license, registration, or insurance. They are divided into three specific classes.

E-Bike Classes
Wisconsin uses a standard three-tier classification system for electric bicycles:
Class 1: Pedal-assist only; motor ceases assistance at 20 mph
Class 2: Throttle-assisted; motor ceases assistance at 20 mph.
Class 3: Pedal-assist only; motor assists up to 28 mph. Must have a speedometer and riders must be at least 16 years old

Where You Can Ride
Roads and Bike Lanes: Compliant e-bikes can be legally ridden anywhere a traditional bicycle is allowed. They follow the same rules of the road (yielding to pedestrians, obeying traffic signals).

Sidewalks: Riding e-bikes on sidewalks is generally prohibited as we do not have an ordinance that permits this.

Paths and Trails: The bike trail and the trail to Birch Lake are open and encourage to be use used for E-Bikes

Helmets are highly encourage to be worn by all E-bike and E-scooter operators!

Electric Scooters
“Electric scooter” means a device weighing less than 100 pounds that has handlebars and an electric motor, is powered solely by the electric motor and human power, and has a maximum speed of not more than 20 miles per hour on a paved level surface when powered solely by the electric motor. “Electric scooter” does not include an electric personal assistive mobility device, motorcycle, motor bicycle, electric bicycle, or moped

To operate
State law does not require you to have a driver license to ride an electric scooter. They follow the same rules of the road (yielding to pedestrians, obeying traffic signals).

Title and plate
Scooters cannot be titled or registered with the Wisconsin DMV

Electric scooters are permitted by default on all roads, sidewalks, and paths under Wisconsin State Statute § 346.94(18s)(b)

Under Wis. Stat. § 346.94(18s)(c), electric scooters have a global Speed Limit of 15mph on all roads, sidewalks, and paths

All electric scooter riders are highly encouraged to wear a helmet and operate safely!

On June 1st some new regulations took effect regarding UTV/ATV use.

1. All occupants of an UTV must have a seatbelt on during road operation. Previously the law was ambiguous for the driver. The new law strictly mandates it for everyone. Seatbelts tickets are more than $160.00

2. Eye Protection is required. Eye protection must be worn for riders of an ATV/UTV unless it is equipped with a functional windshield.

3. Towing restriction: Towing any object with a person in it is prohibited on public ATV/UTV trails and routes.

4. Window Tint Limits. UTV windshields and front side windows can only have a maximum tint of 50% and rear windows must allow at least 30% of light to pass through.

5. Property Damage Penalties: Riders who intentionally cause property damage while operating can now be fined up to 3 times the cost of repairs.

In addition in to these new provisions, recap of the existing laws in place already.

1. Operators of ATV/UTV on village streets must be 16 (village ordinance) and have a safety certificate on person while riding (exempt if born before 1988)

2. ATV can not have more than 1 person unless the machine is manufactured for more than just the operator (2-up) After market seat additions are not allowed.

3. Village ordinance prohibits the operation on village streets between the hours of 11pm and 6am

4. All operators and occupants of an ATV/UTV must wear a DOT approved helmet if under the age of 18. (some ag exemptions do apply)

5. All machine must be registered with the DNR and have the appropriate stickers on the machine

6. ATV/UTV headlights and tail lights must be on during all times when the unit is on the road and must be in working condition.

Please contact us or the local Warden Mike Burns if you have questions about these new updates.

This morning at 1030am, K9 units from Iowa County, Vernon County and Darlington PD entered our school for a pre planned visit. The parking lot and lockers were checked out by the k9 units with no illegal substances located. These visits are done periodically to ensure a drug free campus. I want to thank these K9 units and their handlers for their time this morning.

As we are heading into warmer weather, we ask that you please keep grass clippings off the street. When grass clippings are left in the street, they can wash into storm sewer drains and cause clogged drains, pollute waterways, create traffic hazards, and it violates our local ordinance. It also causes maintenance problems at our sewer plant.

Reminder that for Village Residents we do have a compost site located on South Jones St just before CTH K. The compost site only accepts lawn waste such as grass clippings and leaves for composting. There is also a separate pile for other yard waste such as tree limbs and shrubs. All waste should be emptied from plastic bags, and the bags not left on-site. Thank you for your help with this effort!
