🚒 Vehicle Fire – Town of Trenton

This afternoon at approximately 4:50 PM, the Barneveld Volunteer Fire Department was notified by Oneida County 911 of a reported vehicle fire at a residence on Mapledale Road in the Town of Trenton.

Upon arrival, Barneveld Car 1 (Kalk) confirmed a vehicle was fully involved and in close proximity to the residence. Barneveld Engine 1 (Palmer) arrived shortly after, and the crew quickly deployed a handline and was able to knock down the fire.

Due to the quick response and aggressive fire attack, crews were able to contain the fire to the vehicle. There was no damage to the nearby building.

Crews remained on scene to extinguish the remaining hot spots and ensure the vehicle was fully extinguished. We were assisted by the NY State Police out of the Remsen Barracks.

No injuries were reported.

🚒 Weekly Training – Firefighter Self-Rescue & High-Point Rescue

Tonight, our crews partnered with members of the Holland Patent Hose Co. and Floyd Fire Department at the Floyd Training Center for an evening focused on firefighter survival and technical rescue skills.

Crews practiced firefighter self-rescue scenarios, including rope-assisted bailouts from upper-floor windows and techniques for safely exiting a structure when interior conditions rapidly deteriorate.

Members also reviewed high-point rescue operations, practicing how to remove a firefighter or victim from an upper floor using rope systems and coordinated team operations.

Training like this is critical. When conditions inside a structure change rapidly, firefighters need to have the skills, equipment, and confidence to get themselves—and others—out safely.

A big thank you to the members of Holland Patent Hose Co. and Floyd Fire Department for joining us and making it another great night of hands-on training.

In December 2023, the Trenton Joint Fire District signed a contract with JPB Fire Equipment for the purchase of a new tanker/pumper from Toyne Fire Apparatus.

This new apparatus was designed to replace two pieces of equipment in our fleet with a single, more versatile unit. The apparatus being replaced were a 1996 tanker and a 1999 engine. By combining the capabilities of both into one piece of apparatus, the District is able to reduce future replacement costs, maintenance expenses, and insurance costs while adding greater versatility to our fleet.

The new tanker/pumper was specifically designed to both pump and haul water, giving our crews the ability to provide fire suppression capabilities while also bringing a substantial water supply to incidents where hydrants or municipal water systems are not available.

After a lengthy design and construction process, the new apparatus arrived in March 2026.

Over the summer, our crews completed extensive in-service training before placing the unit into service. Members spent countless hours becoming familiar with the truck’s systems, pump operations, water supply capabilities, equipment placement, and overall operation.

This training was critical to ensuring that when the new apparatus was called upon, our members would be confident and proficient in its operation. Preparing the crew is just as important as preparing the truck.

The addition of this apparatus represents a significant investment in the future of the Trenton Joint Fire District and, most importantly, in the safety of the residents and communities we serve.

We would like to thank the Trenton Joint Fire District Board of Fire Commissioners, JPB Fire Equipment, Toyne Fire Apparatus, and everyone who played a role in bringing this project from an idea to reality.

🚒 WEEKLY TRAINING | GROUND LADDER OPERATIONS 🚒

Tonight our crews focused on ground ladder operations during our weekly training session.

Members practiced carrying and deploying ground ladders for rescue, ventilation, and emergency egress, with an emphasis on both one-person and two-person carries.

These basic skills are critical on the fireground. Proper ladder placement and teamwork can provide firefighters with an additional means of access, rescue, or escape when conditions change.

Tonight, our crews focused on relay pumping and water supply operations using a static water source, utilizing a portable water tank.

Members operated Engine 1 and Engine 3, practicing the setup and operation of the portable pond, establishing a water supply, and relaying water between apparatus to maintain a continuous flow.

Training like this is critical when operating in areas where hydrants are limited or unavailable. Building proficiency in water supply operations ensures our crews are prepared to move water efficiently and keep it flowing when the call comes.

Train today. Be ready tomorrow. 🚒
