On Saturday, May 23, 2026, the Barnegat Historical Society held its Annual Spring Clean-Up at its Heritage Village & Museum. Despite the dismal weather, we had an impressive turn out of volunteers, and due to their herculean efforts much was accomplished. As you may recall, our vintage corn crib, that was Going, Going . . ., is now Gone! Each of the Village’s buildings were meticulously gone over, and tidied up for our coming season. This year, we had the availability of a “Dumpster”, and as you can see in the photo section, “Our Dumpster Runneth Over!” Unfortunately, we are still looking for one of our volunteers. It would be highly inappropriate not to give credit to the anonymous trio that labored tirelessly throughout the entire day to install two massive patriotic banners under the Village’s Sign. Sadly, in addition to the lost volunteer, we can not locate the instructions! Needless to say, a fun, and most productive time was had by all, except maybe the lost volunteer.

Monday and Tuesday, May 18th and 19th, 2026, were special days for the Barnegat Historical Society. As you know, one of the Society’s primary goals is to share and promote Barnegat’s rich history, and to keep the love and interest in that history alive. And whom better to share that interest with, but some young people, of course. Therefore, through the efforts of BHS Members Kathy Conrad, and her mate Grove Conrad, in conjunction with the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission, arrangements were made to have 10th grade, American History students from Barnegat High School visit two of Barnegat Township’s iconic historic sites, Ocean County Park’s Cedar Bridge Tavern Historic Site and, of course, the Barnegat Historical Society’s Heritage Village & Museum. So for those two days, BHS President Gary Brower, Kathy Conrad (Grove couldn’t attend the event, as he actually drives a school bus himself), Sandy Kellogg, Kathy Nisivocci, Rene Kennedy, Giovanni Rawley and Curt Watts took the time to host these students, their teachers and chaperones, and to give them a good sense of the extraordinary history present at the Heritage Village & Museum and the Township of Barnegat as well. Hopefully, we have been able to cultivate a greater interest in American History amongst these young people. The accompanying photos all taken by Kathy Nisivocci, illustrate only a small part of the effort put forth by the Barnegat Historical Society Volunteers who gave of their time. Time well spent; I might add.
