Barkhamsted East Fire, Pleasant Valley Vol. Fire Department , Volunteer Fire Department along with a large number of neighboring departments on mutual aid responded to a structure fire at 4 Old North Rd in Barkhamsted,yesterday, June 8 at just after 4am. Barkhamsted East Fire conducted water supply operations filling tankers. Water draft site was at Sterling Engineerings upper pond which has a dry hydrant installed. Part of fill site operations is keeping track of the number tankers filled and their capacities. Using this information we filled 19,900 gallons during the incident. Thank you to Sterling Engineering for allowing the use of their pond and continued support.

Barkhamsted fire departments along with multiple mutual aid companies are working a structure fire in the area of Rt44 and Old North Rd in Barkhamsted. If you can please avoid the area to reduce traffic build up.

Barkhamsted East Fire Department along with Pleasant Valley and Riverton Fire Departments as well as other surrounding Departments were able to get a tour of the Colebrook River Lake and U.S. Army Corp of Engineers facility Friday. They learned of the history and unique features of the facility. It was also an opportunity to conduct a informal pre-plan of the facility for any future emergency calls.

6/3/26 Barkhamsted East Fire along with Pleasant Valley Vol. Fire Department , Riverton Volunteer Fire Department , New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department , New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance , Medic 3, and the Goshen dive team were dispatched to the Lake McDonough boat launch for a vehicle in the water. Upon arrival of first units it was found that Conservation Ranger Roma, and Public Safety Officer Rousseau of MDC were actively doing CPR on the driver of the vehicle. The vehicle was completely under water at this time with boat and trailer attached..New Hartford Ambulance, medic 3 and other first responders arrived and took over EMS care. No other occupants were in the vehicle

It was learned that Roma and Rousseau spotted the vehicle in the water and risked their own Safety to dive into the water and remove the occupant from the vehicle and bring him to shore where they immediately began CPR.

An exhaustive effort by EMS, medic and 1st responders was made to resuscitate the occupant, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful.

At this time it appears the occupant suffered some type of medical episode as he was removing his boat from the water after a day of fishing.

Goshen dive team divers were used to assist the wrecker with getting the vehicle and trailer removed from the lake.

On 6/2/26 Barkhamsted East Fire along with Pleasant Valley Vol. Fire Department , New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department , Riverton Volunteer Fire Department , East Hartland Vol. Fire department, and New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance responded to a reported structure fire at a residence on Ratlum Rd in Barkhamsted. First unit arrival reported smoke in basement and into the garage above. Crews made entry into the basement and discovered smoldering clothing in a dryer. Dryer was immediately removed to the outside and the contents were extinguished. There was no extension of fire outside the dryer. The residence was vented of residual smoke. Thank you to all who responded, and their rapid response saved the home from further damage.

Last night for drill we conducted ATV operations. We drove some of the access roads that give us quick entry to the rural trail systems in town. Besides preplanning access roads and conditions we were also paying attention to the different waterways along the trails and access roads for potential sources of water for wildfire suppression. It was a good night to get out run the machines. The rescue trailer is specifically designed to carry a stokes basket and EMT to make carrying patients easier, or for carrying equipment into the woods.

Barkhamsted East Fire, Pleasant Valley Vol. Fire Department ,Riverton Volunteer Fire Department , Winsted Fire Department , Winsted Area Ambulance Association Official Site New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance , medic 3, and LIFE STAR responded to a 3 vehicle accident yesterday. The incident happened in front of the O'Reilly auto parts entrance on Rt 44. The passenger of the motorcycle was transported by Life Star for injuries sustained in the crash, and the drivers of the bike and one of the sedans were transported to area hospitals.

Reminder of the annual Barkhamsted Fire District meeting tonight at 8pm.
This will be held at the Barkhamsted East Fire Department at 54 North Canton Rd. This is open to all taxpayers in the town of Barkhamsted. It's when the coming years Fire District budget is presented and voted on, as well as voting for the members of the board..
