Open Your Heart. Change a Life.

Every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and loved. Right now, there are youth across Kentucky who need caring adults willing to open their hearts and homes to provide stability, encouragement, and hope during difficult seasons of life.

Bluegrass Foster Services, Kentucky’s premier therapeutic foster agency, is dedicated to embracing the Lord Jesus’ mandate to reach the Lost, Least, and Last. Our mission is rooted in creating nurturing, faith-centered homes where youth can heal, grow, and thrive.
We are actively seeking compassionate individuals and families who are interested in becoming foster parents. You do not have to be perfect; you simply need a willing heart, patience, and a desire to make a difference in the life of a child. Bluegrass Foster Services recruits, trains, and certifies high-character, high-quality foster parents who are ready to provide love, guidance, and therapeutic support to youth in need.

Foster parenting is more than opening your home. It offers encouragement when a child feels uncertain, creates memories that matter, and helps youth discover their worth and potential. The impact of a safe and caring family can last a lifetime.

Even if fostering is not the right fit for your family right now, you can still help by spreading the word about the growing need for foster parents throughout Kentucky. Sharing information with your church, workplace, friends, and community could help connect a child with the loving home they deserve.

Cumberland Falls Trip

New Experiences, Lasting Memories
Some of our youth recently enjoyed a special trip to Cumberland Falls, one of Kentucky’s most treasured natural landmarks.
Experiences like these help youth broaden their horizons, build confidence, and create positive memories that can last a lifetime. For many children in care, opportunities to explore new places and share adventures together are deeply meaningful.
Healing happens not only through counseling and structure, but also through laughter, discovery, and moments of wonder.
We are grateful to provide experiences that remind our youth there is a big and beautiful future ahead.

What not to say to foster parents…

“I’d get too attached.”

You couldn't foster because your heart is just so big that you'd get too attached & you couldn't let them go. & I know you believe it when you say it.

But, we get attached. We fall in love. We check the closet for monsters at bedtime, we hold them through meltdowns, cheer at milestones & invest our whole selves knowing that at any moment, we may have to say goodbye.

& that’s the point.

When someone says, “I’d get too attached,” I’m thinking to myself “don’t you think I also get attached?” Because the truth is, we’re not emotionally immune. Our hearts break too. The ache of letting go is real & it stays with us forever.

But here’s the difference: we believe kids deserve to be loved so deeply that the goodbye should hurt. Because they deserve adults who will attach, even temporarily, because these kids need healthy attachment. It can help rewire the brain. It shows kids they’re worth loving, no matter how long they stay or don’t.

& just maybe, If your reason for not fostering is because you’d get too attached, you’re exactly the kind of person these kids need.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month.

This month isn’t just about awareness. It’s a call to action.

Right now, there are children in your community who need a safe bed to sleep in & adults that will choose to show up for them no matter what. Foster care isn’t one size fits all. & the truth is, not everyone is called to foster, but everyone can do something.

So consider this your invitation.

An invitation to learn & ask questions. An invitation to step a little closer to see the reality of foster care instead of looking away. & an invitation to really see these children beyond a statistic of the system.

You can:
Become a foster parent
Become a respite provider
Pray

Foster care is messy, beautiful & heartbreaking all at once. It will stretch you in ways you never could have imagined, but it will also matter more than you could imagine.

If you’ve ever felt that nudge in your heart or that strong calling to help children in foster care, this is the time.

These children are waiting for someone to say, “I’ll step in.”

Maybe that someone is you?
