If you are attending Vineyard in the Village Wine Festival this evening, feel free to park in the police department parking lot. We just ask that you donโ€™t block the back gate or any of our cruisers. Enjoy! ๐Ÿท

Itโ€™s fawn season. Read and heed.

๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”We are begging our communityโ€ฆ PLEASE LEAVE FAWNS ALONE.๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
Every single day we are getting messages and emails from people who have already picked up a fawn and then ask how to care for it๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ก
This is NOT okay!!! This is NOT legal!!! And this is NOT helping!!!!
If you see a fawn alone for a few hours, that does NOT mean itโ€™s abandoned!!!
Mother deer intentionally leave their babies hidden while they go off to feed. She WILL come back!!!!!!!!!!
When you take that baby you are ILLEGALLY removing wildlife from the wild!!!!
You are causing extreme stress to the fawn!!!!๐Ÿ’”
You are separating it from a mother who is actively caring for it๐Ÿ’”
Now instead of a healthy baby waiting safely for mom YOU'VE created an orphan that did not need to be one!!!!
Please understand this clearly
Do NOT touch, move, or โ€œrescueโ€ a fawn without speaking to a licensed wildlife professional FIRST!!!!
If youโ€™re reaching out to US , WAIT for a response before doing anything!!!!
We cannot undo the damage once that baby is taken๐Ÿ’”.
This is getting completely out of control, and it is costing fawns their lives.๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’”
We are literally begging you LEAVE THE FAWNS WHERE THEY ARE!!!!!!๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
Mom is nearby. Let HER do HER job!!!

Be sure to stop by the Amphitheater in the Barboursville Park Saturday at 8AM for a very special community event.

The event will include vendors, food trucks, face painting, and a huge community-donated yard sale, with all proceeds going toward helping a very special little girl. Cammie will also have her own lemonade stand set up, which everyone is excited about!

Weโ€™re really looking forward to bringing the community together for a fun day that will also make a meaningful difference for this family during a difficult time.

5x5. Itโ€™s become an annual Memorial Day tradition here at BPD.

Five miles on the road followed by five, five-minute rounds on the mat.

We spent the morning reflecting on the sacrifices made by the soldiers who gave their lives for this country and the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We talked about the great responsibility we have as law enforcement officers, not only to protect our communities, but to guard the constitutional rights that so many Americans died defending.

Remember, freedom is never free.

From The Chief's Desk:

Office Dailey, the SRO for Barboursville Middle School, spent this week talking to the kids about the dangers of sextortion, online predators, and cyberbullying. This is and extremely important topic today.

Many apps and games our kids use allow strangers direct access to them through messages, photos, and video chats. Predators often pretend to be another child or teenager to gain trust before asking for inappropriate photos or personal information.

Once they receive those images, they may threaten, blackmail, or humiliate the child by demanding money and more photos. This is referred to as "sextortion" and it is happening far more than many parents realize.

Parents, please remind your kids:

* Never send inappropriate photos or videos.
* Never share personal information with strangers online.
* What goes online can spread instantly and permanently.
* Tell a trusted adult immediately if this happens.

Monitor devices, know what apps your children are using, and keep open communication with them. A simple conversation today could protect your child from lasting emotional or even physical harm tomorrow.

If your child becomes a victim, report it immediately to law enforcement. They are not alone, and help is available.

Respectfully,

Chief Lucas

As National Law Enforcement Appreciation Week concludes today with Peace Officers Memorial Day, I simply want to say thank you.

I cannot express enough how good it is to be a police officer in the Village of Barboursville. Throughout this week, our officers and staff received an overwhelming amount of encouragement, kindness, prayers, cards, meals, and thoughtful words from this community.

It would be impossible to personally thank everyone who stopped by the office, sent messages, or took time to encourage our department.

Please know that your support truly means more than you realize. Policing can often be difficult and demanding, but serving a community that so consistently shows appreciation and care is a tremendous blessing.

Today, we also remember the brave law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. We honor their memory and continue to pray for their families and fellow officers.

From all of us at the Barboursville Police Department โ€” thank you for standing with us and supporting those who serve.

Sincerely,

Chief Lucas
