Woweeeeee Kazoweeee! What a fantastic day it was at Turkeyfoot Golf Links for the annual Magic City Kiwanis/Loreto George Golf Outing on August 28. Out of a record 34 foursomes testing their skills against the course, "Real Men Do Wear Pink" (see below) took home the honors for the day. Huge kudos to Magic City Kiwanians Denny Liddle and Chris Silva for stepping up to run an incredible event that was on the verge of being cancelled in late June. Many thanks to all the MCK members who volunteered time and effort to make the day run smoothly. And special thanks to all the business and individuals who sponsored breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all the various holes at the event. Thanks also to all the folks who donated prizes for the raffle table and for the special "fundraiser" putting contest. In golf, the old maxim is that you "Drive for Show, Putt for Dough." At this event, the players took putters in hand to "Putt for Booze." Until next year... Ready. Set. Read!

More than 60 fabulous gift baskets are ready for you to take home, if your ticket is a lucky one. Craft b**r is waiting to be poured. The kitchen staff is cooking up lots of good eats. A wonderland of raffle prizes awaits

Ignite Brewing Company in downtown Barberton is the place to be on July 10 and July 11. A wonderland of fabulous raffle baskets and silent auction prizes awaits, thanks to the Magic City Kiwanis Club and lots of generous donors. Ignite customers can enjoy a cold craft brew and tasty pub food as they bid on an array of prizes.
More than 60 gift baskets will be up for grabs.
Each basket contains items with a retail value of $50 to $100, according to Diane Breiding, MCK treasurer. In addition, a dozen higher value prizes, including a children’s bounce house, will be available to bid on as part of a silent auction. There will be gently used framed art to bid on as well.
Customers can bid on the baskets on Friday, July 10, from 3 pm to 11 pm. Ignite opens for basket bidding at 10 am on Saturday, July 11. Silent auction winners and raffle basket winners will be notified after closing at 9 pm on Saturday.
Proceeds from the fundraising event will bolster many of MCK programs designed to support the children of Barberton. The new initiative for 2026 is called "Ready. Set. Read!"
MCK is raising money to provide at least two brand new books to Barberton’s young readers in Pre-K, and Kindergarten through Grade 3. Barberton primary grade teachers will receive a classroom set of books. In addition, money to purchase lots of new books will go to the Children’s Department at the Barberton Public Library.

Magic City Kiwanis members work hard to make every event and fundraiser as successful as possible. However, the weather is always a variable out of our control. Many thanks to Bob and Jimmy Hurbean for organizing the first ever Magic City Kiwanis Car Show on June 27. But the weather gods had other ideas. Rain is not a good mix for vintage cars and car enthusiasts. Still, several intrepid car owners made the trek to Barberton. For his diligence, and a very sweet looking 1941 Plymouth Coupe, Noel Walters took home the Best of Show prize. Thanks to all the Kiwanians who were there to help. We'll try again another time and hope the sun is shining.

A job well done! More than 134 pounds of unused and expired prescription drugs were collected by Magic City Kiwanians on Saturday. In cooperation with the Barberton Police Department and the Barberton Community Foundation, MCK members took part in the annual Drug Take Back Day. The work is part of a national initiative aimed at providing a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. It encourages the public to safely and anonymously dispose of expired, unused, or unnecessary medications at designated collection sites, helping to reduce prescription drug misuse and prevent accidental overdoses and poisonings.

Avoiding Cyber Scams 101

Good morning Magic City Kiwanians,

Eagle Scout candidate Jack Schenkenberger presented an overview of his "Scam Safety 101" project as part of our April 8 meeting. His project is nearing completion.
