VOTE for Rebecca SAUK COUNTY COUNTY BOARD SUPERVISOR DISTRICT 21

04/01/2022

Hi Neighbor!
I am a candidate for our District 21 County Board of Supervisors seat. I know some of you, but not all of you. I thought I’d let you know a bit more about me and why I am a candidate. I love Sauk County am committed to making our county stronger, safer, with services that address the issues most 63,000 need addressed.

I was born and raised in Baraboo. After graduation, I attended UW-Madison and then spent 30+ years in Milwaukee working in real estate development and owning my own advertising and TV production firm. If you’d like to check out my resume, go to my page or email me and I’d be happy to share it with you.
I love Milwaukee, but my heart kept calling me back to what I have always considered home, Baraboo. So, when an opportunity presented itself to move home and develop a lavender farm, I jumped on it.

I never imagined I would be a candidate for office, to have constituents who would listen to me, one of three daughters of a carpenter and a teacher. It’s a bit unreal. I’m proud to say I am endorsed by the South-Central Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO. If I am elected, I promise to uplift all voices and fight for you.
I will fight for the strategic plan for the Great Sauk Trail and placemaking.

I will fight for taxes that are effective and make sense.
I will fight for education with points of access for all.
I will fight for economic development that protects our natural resources but creates jobs.

I will fight for strong law enforcement, keeping our families safe, with great roads and access to our natural resources.

My working-class parents, Roland and Marlene, taught me to make choices and sacrifices and, if you think you can make a difference you should. I think I can make a difference. The same old way just won’t do in Sauk County.

When my father was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at 28, with three daughters under six, my mom went back to college to get her teaching degree. The healthcare system didn’t provide for the care my father needed, nor could my family survive on my dad’s job alone. With added medical expenses and time off needed for his illness, my parents pieced together multiple jobs to take care of our healthcare and to send all three of their daughters to college or tech school.

My story started 50 plus years ago and today, it’s still a common story for many. Parents working multiple jobs just to keep up with expenses to provide for their kids. It’s amazing to me the same issues are so common fifty years later, from healthcare to education, childcare to housing, and taxes.

So many families are one illness away, one home repair away, one car repair or replacement away from getting into deep debt, which can be overwhelming.

We need to understand ‘the same old way won’t do anymore. The same old way won’t do in Sauk County. We need to have leadership at the County level that is not one homogenous voice, but varying voices representing the needs of all 63,000 plus residents of Sauk County.
I work at the University of Wisconsin Platteville for the Baraboo, Richland Center, and Platteville campuses, as an outreach specialist working with adults on micro-credentials to help them achieve better jobs, with better credentials and adult education.

We deserve representatives who truly know us—the people who make up our district.

I understand the foundations of what makes our county strong:

- K-12 education, higher education, trades training and non-traditional adult learning

-economic development and jobs

-land conservation through eco-tourism protecting the rich natural resources our county has

-the value of place-making without destroying what makes us unique

- Safety of all our citizens with strong law enforcement and great roads
-Senior services, Veteran Services, Youth Services

The same way won't do now or in the future. That’s why I’m running for County Board.

As your representative I will work for and vote for the things that benefit all 63,000 of our residents.

Together, we need to take a stand for all our families. Every family deserves the lowest taxes possible with a decent livelihood, quality and available educational opportunities, and healthcare. Together, we need to create a stronger future for the families in our county.
But I can’t do it alone. I need your help and your vote.

I am Rebecca Powell, and I ask you to join me in creating a future we can all be proud of, by choosing me to represent District 21 on the Sauk County Board.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Please help spread the word by following my campaign on social media and sharing my message!

These mid-term Spring elections are notoriously low in turnout. I’m asking you to come out and vote this coming Tuesday. My opponent is Robert Walter Spencer, a well know name in the County. My name will be second on the ballot.
