Congratulations to the Native American students from California who each received a $10,000 scholarship from the Morongo Band of Mission Indians' 21st annual Rodney T. Mathews Jr. Memorial Scholarship Program.
The 2026 scholars are Mary Pojas and Nusun Pojas of the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians, and Kristian Zavala of the Manchester Point Arena Band of Pomo Indians.
Over the past 21 years, Morongo's Mathews Scholarship Program has awarded $710,000 in scholarships to Native American students attending universities across the country. This week, Morongo awarded nearly $450,000 in grants to 111 non-profit organizations across the Inland Empire, including OPARC, Janet Goeske Foundation & Senior Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert, The Unforgettables Foundation, Friends of the Beaumont Library District, Shelter From The Storm and so many more. ⚾🧢Play Ball! Morongo is excited to once again be supporting local youth athletics with a $185,000 contribution to the Banning-Pass Little League! The latest donation is for new bleachers and shade coverings at Lions Park for families and fans.

Morongo has given more than $435,000 to the Banning Pass Little League over the past three years for a new scoreboard, new baseball equipment, and to renovate the dugouts and fields at Lions Park.
