We Remember, We Honor, We Stand Together

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Leads Local Friday Night Lights Unity Event in Partnership with Brewer and Hampden Public Safety.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Brewer Police Department, Brewer Fire Department, Brewer School Department, and Hampden Police Department, will bring the national Friday Night Lights Unity Seats initiative to Doyle Field during the Brewer vs. Hampden football game.

The national initiative brings Sheriffs and their communities together through Friday night high school football and, this year, will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. Organizers anticipate communities across the country participating in a shared night of remembrance and unity.

The Sheriffs Unity Network was created as a nationwide grassroots network focused on supporting the work Sheriffs already do to build bridges and strengthen their communities.

Friday's event will include a moment of silence and remembrance honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, their families, and the first responders and citizens whose courage and service followed the attacks.

Attendees will also have opportunities to win door prizes, including chances to win tickets to University of Maine football games.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and its community partners invite everyone from Brewer, Hampden, and surrounding communities to join us for an evening of remembrance, unity, and Friday night football.

I.G.N.I.T.E. Educational Program Shows Immediate Results at PCJ

The Penobscot County Jail’s Inmate Growth Naturally & Intentionally Through Education (I.G.N.I.T.E.) program has demonstrated an immediate and meaningful impact on our incarcerated population.

During the initial three-month period, 137 individuals completed 336 courses, totaling 1,898 hours of coursework. In just the two months since the program’s launch, an additional 147 individuals completed 624 courses, representing a remarkable 3,019 hours of educational coursework.

Following today's national I.G.N.I.T.E. office meeting, we were recognized for the progress made at the Penobscot County Jail and had the opportunity to learn how other correctional facilities across the country utilize the program to encourage personal growth, educational achievement, and positive change.

The early results of this program demonstrate a strong commitment from our participants and reinforce the value of providing meaningful educational opportunities that encourage personal development and growth.

3-Year-Old Child Seriously Injured in LaGrange Vehicle Accident

Media Release:
On 8/26/2026 at 1555 hours the Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting that a 3 year old child was run over by a car operated by a family member at a residence in Lagrange.

Deputies of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded. While responding they were advised that the child was being rushed to the hospital by family members in a car. A Fire Investigator with the Maine Fire Marshall’s Office intercepted the car and placed the child and a parent in his cruiser and began transporting him to emergency personnel.

Members of PCSO coordinated Ambulances staged at various locations to get the child the quickest medical care possibly. The fire investigator was able to get the child to a PCSO Supervisor and awaiting Orono Fire Department Ambulance at one of those staging areas in Orono. Orono Fire Department transported the child to EMMC where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office utilized our Crash Reconstruction Team, Criminal Investigation Division Detectives, and the Patrol Division to investigate this tragic accident. No further information will be released on this matter.

With Schools starting this time of year we remind driver’s to please use caution as many children will be walking on the roadways, to and from busses, and playing in driveways after school.

This is also an opportunity for parents to remind your kids that it is not safe to be playing behind vehicles in driveways or to run behind vehicles that are in motion.

Congratulations to the 90th Basic Corrections Training Program, including the four officers from PCJ!

Corrections is a critical part of our criminal justice system, and the responsibilities and challenges facing correctional facilities have changed dramatically over the years.

Finding the right balance between keeping the public safe and providing individuals with an opportunity to change their lives is not always easy. It takes dedication, professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to the mission.

Sheriff’s Deputies execute another dangerous drug search warrant, seizing fi****ms, drugs and currency.

Woman Arrested After Probation Search Yields Significant Quantities of Fentanyl, Co***ne, Methamphetamine, and M**A


HERMON, Maine — On August 21, 2026, at approximately 11:40 p.m., deputies from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office conducted a probation search of an RV located at a local business in the Town of Hermon.

Information developed by a Sheriff’s deputy determined that Kristina Andrews, 37, a transient, was on probation for Unlawful Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs and was subject to searches as a condition of that probation.


During the search, deputies located two locked safes. Neither Andrews nor the other individual present cooperated in providing the combinations. The safes were seized after deputies developed probable cause to believe they contained evidence of drug trafficking.


Deputies subsequently applied for and were granted a search warrant to access the locked safes. On August 23, 2026, with the assistance of the Bangor Fire Department, deputies forced open the safes. Inside, they located approximately 150 gross grams (combined weight) of fentanyl, co***ne, methamphetamine, and M**A. Also recovered were a handgun, a realistic-looking BB gun, and approximately $3,500 in cash believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking.


Kristina Andrews was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Unlawful Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs
- Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (convicted felon)
- Unlawful Possession of Schedule W Drugs


She was also held on a probation violation at the request of Maine Probation and Parole.


Additional arrests are expected. This investigation remains active.

Joint investigation leads to charges in auto thefts.

Media Release:
Orrington, Maine — On July 24, 2026, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Brewer Police Department after officers at Brewer received a report of an abandoned vehicle. It was later determined that the vehicle had been stolen from the Town of Orrington.


Over the following weeks, deputies assigned to the Town of Orrington worked jointly with the Brewer Police Department to investigate the theft. Additional vehicles were also reported stolen or taken without the owners’ permission in the towns of Orrington and Brewer; those vehicles were subsequently recovered.


Through the joint investigation, the Brewer Police Department and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office identified two juvenile suspects. The Sheriff’s Office has charged a 15-year-old juvenile from Orrington and a 14-year-old juvenile from Brewer with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Theft by Unauthorized Taking or Transfer, and Unauthorized Use of Property.


The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are expected.


The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Brewer Police Department for its assistance, which was instrumental in solving this case.


This incident serves as an important reminder for residents to lock their vehicle doors and remove keys from their vehicle
