Excuse our Thursday... it’s Hi Five Friday in SlaterNation. ✋

Mentorship and leadership are important parts of our mission at BASD. Whether it’s a parent, sibling, teacher, or upperclassman, having people around us who model what it means to lead, care for others, and be part of a community can make a lasting difference.

Often, it’s the little things that make the biggest impact.

This morning, our senior football players took time away from their day to greet our K-2 students as they arrived at Five Points Elementary. There were plenty of high fives, smiles, and a few very excited young Slaters along the way.

Helping every student thrive begins with removing barriers and creating opportunities. That belief is coming to life at Five Points Elementary School through a new, inclusive, playground designed for every student.

This project became a true collaboration between our Community Parent Advisory Committee, school staff, playground design professionals, and our Board of Education. Together, we reimagined the space by relocating the playground closer to the school, improving accessibility, enhancing student safety, and creating an environment where every child can participate, explore, and build friendships together.

Thank you to our School Board, CPAC, Five Points Elementary Team, and Boyce Recreation for turning this vision into reality.

A high school day, just for the Class of 2030.

Our freshmen had the building to themselves as they learned their schedules, found their way around, and got a feel for what high school will ask of them.

The day also included time to talk about expectations, organization and executive functioning, hear from upperclassmen representing different clubs, and work intentionally with their peers.

Behind the scenes, it has been a great week across BASD.

Our teachers and staff have been learning, planning, preparing, and getting everything ready for our students.

From our facilities to our classrooms, we are ready and excited to welcome everyone back on Monday!

Today we welcomed our new and non-tenured teachers to SlaterNation!

The day included professional development, sessions to learn District systems, and time to begin getting familiar with building specific practices and procedures. Most importantly, it was a chance to connect with colleagues and begin building relationships that will support a great school year.

And, of course, we appreciate The Smokin’ Pasty Co. for providing a traditional Slate Belt lunch with a modern twist, topped off with some Jacktown Ice Cream. A great way to welcome our newest members to SlaterNation!
