🚒 New Thermal Imaging Cameras Enhance Firefighter Safety and Effectiveness 🚒
The Orono Fire Department recently upgraded our thermal imaging capabilities through funding provided by our Capital Improvement Program.
We purchased five SEEK FirePRO personal thermal imaging cameras, allowing every firefighter on duty to have access to their own camera. These compact devices improve situational awareness, support faster search operations, and can assist firefighters with orientation and self-rescue in low-visibility conditions.
In addition, we purchased three SEEK AttackPRO thermal imaging cameras, ensuring that each frontline apparatus is equipped with a larger, vehicle-mounted thermal imaging camera. These cameras provide a larger display, greater detail, and a wider field of view to support fireground operations.
Thermal imaging technology helps firefighters:
🔥 Locate the seat of a fire more quickly
🏠 Confirm whether rooms have been searched and cleared
🧍 Identify victims who may be obscured by smoke or darkness
🌡️ Monitor changing heat conditions during fire attack and overhaul operations
While thermal imaging cameras do not replace training, experience, or sound decision-making, they are valuable tools that enhance firefighter safety and effectiveness. Providing every firefighter with access to this technology allows for quicker assessments, more informed decisions, and improved operational efficiency in high-stress environments.
We would like to thank the Town Administration and Town Council for their continued support and investment in the safety of our firefighters and the community we serve. 🚒❤️
