Superintendent’s Message
Dear Tiger Family, September 2026
I always notice school buses in the community as a sign that learning is going on today. The school year is off to a great start and it is awesome to have students and staff back in the buildings. The energy and the enthusiasm is felt in the hallways and classrooms.
A huge shout out to the Staff and Students at Ocean Crest for being one of 2,000 bright spots recognized by The 74 for reading achievement. They compared a school's demographic make-up with 3rd grade reading results and Ocean Crest has better reading results than expected based on demographics. Congratulations!
Testing has become an important part of academic progress monitoring and school improvement efforts. There are many mixed messages in the media about the importance of all these tests we give our students. I want to stress the importance of having your students participate in and do their best on these assessments. Most importantly, the results are used to identify which students will benefit from additional support in the classroom and they are used to measure student progress during the year and over the years. The state test results are used to compare schools across the state. The board is working hard to improve the academic outcomes for our students. The results on these assessments are just one of the important data points that the board uses to determine if we are on the right track.
Each day I meet more and more people in Bandon and continue to be impressed with the kindness and openness of the people in the community. I am looking forward to my first Cranberry Festival and all of the festivities that go along with it. These kinds of events really allow our community to show off our pride.
I hope to meet even more of you at school and community events in the coming weeks and months. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself.
