Our Story

Bamberg is a lovely little town that is bordered by the beautiful Edisto River on the North and the Big Salkehatchie on the South. Highway 301, a North South Vein from Vermont to Florida runs through the middle of downtown.

We have a beautiful National Historic District with 60 plus residential properties listed on the National Registered of Historic Places in Washington, DC.

Downtown Bamberg buildings are from the late 1800s. There once was a High Noon Duel in Downtown Bamberg near the old City Hall. William Gilmore Simms made his home outside of Bamberg in Midway at his wife’s Plantation, Woodlands where he wrote some eighty plus famous works here before the War Between the States.

Bamberg has the winning-est baseball Coach in the state, David Horton. He produced such greats as Mookie Wilson and his son Preston Wilson, as well as Zack Godley. Football stars Ricky Sapp and Da’Quan Bowers hail from Bamberg.
