With Halloween just around the corner, the Staff Engagement Committee is thrilled to announce an exciting event to get you into the spooky spirit and promote staff engagement!

🎃 Halloween Costume Day Contest - Monday, October 30, 2023 🎃

On Monday, October 30, we invite all UBalt staff to participate in our Halloween Costume Day. It's a fantastic opportunity to showcase your creativity and embrace Halloween. Everyone can join the fun whether you're working on campus or remotely!

Here's how you can get involved:

On-Campus Staff:
Dress up in your most spooktacular, creative, or fun Halloween costumes. Feel free to unleash your inner ghost, ghoul, or other character your heart desires. You may even want to coordinate outfits with your colleagues to make it more memorable!

Remote Staff:
We don't want our remote colleagues to miss the Halloween fun, either! We'd like to encourage you to participate as well. Dress up in your Halloween costume, snap a photo, and share it with us. We'll feature your remote submissions as well.

The school's marketing team photographers will roam around campus, capturing your incredible costumes throughout the day. Don't be surprised if you see them; they're hunting for the most impressive costumes to be featured on UBalt's social media on Halloween Day, October 31st. The top three best costume winners will be contacted as well.

For questions (contact co-chairs, Amadou Bah, [email protected] or Katie Rolfes, [email protected])

Sharing this important message from today's Daily Digest:
The Office of Diversity and International Services wishes to celebrate Juneteenth with The University of Baltimore community. Juneteenth, also called Juneteenth Independence Day, Freedom Day, or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in The United States of America. Juneteenth, known to many as the second Independence Day, marks when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people were freed. The troops arrived two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth officially became a federal holiday on June 17th 2021. The historical legacy of Juneteenth commemorates the hardships endured by enslaved African Americans and exemplifies empowerment and hopefulness. Read more about the history and significance of Juneteenth with this NPR article: https://www.npr.org/2021/06/17/1007315228/juneteenth-what-is-origin-observation

Please join us in paying tribute to the generations of African Americans who have contributed to and influenced the history, culture, and achievements of The United States.

We have included below a list of events in Baltimore to celebrate Juneteenth.
