ABET We're a nonprofit quality assurance organization focused on higher education programs. Our more than 2,200 experts come from industry, academia, and government.

Through our services and global partnerships, we help prepare the next generation of students build a safer, more efficient and sustainable world. We accredit college and university programs in the disciplines of applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology at the associate, bachelor's and master's degree levels. With ABET accreditation, students, employers and th

e society we serve can be confident that a program meets the quality standards that produce graduates prepared to enter a global workforce. We began as the educational standard against which professional engineers in the United States were held for licensure. Today, after more than 80 years, our standards continue to play this fundamental role and have become the basis of quality for over 40 disciplines all over the world. Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, our criteria focus on what students experience and learn. Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance. They give their time and effort supporting quality assurance activities around the world by serving as program evaluators, commissioners, board members and advisors.

M. Kantha Reddy, Ph.D., met ABET CEO Michael K. J. Milligan, Ph.D., at a conference in India back in 2014. He had no way of knowing it at the time, but that talk would set the course for the next decade of his career.

"Listening to him helped me realize that ABET is not just an accreditation organization. It is a global community working together to prepare engineers who can address real-world challenges," Dr. Reddy says.

Four years later, Dr. Reddy joined ABET as an Adjunct Accreditation Director and leads the growth of the Purdue Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) India Consortium, helping students put their engineering skills to work on complex community challenges.

An article from our coverage partners at University World News profiles a humanitarian engineering program working alongside artisanal gold miners and urban recyclers in Colombia. Students from the Colorado School of Mines and Southern Methodist University travel to Colombian communities not to deliver solutions, but to understand problems in their full context and co-design approaches with the people living them.

It is a powerful reminder that quality engineering education and global impact are not separate goals.
