I have not been on Facebook in a "minute," but I just read in the Sun that one of my sixth graders Santiago Loyal (aka "Tiger") that I taught as a first year teacher was murdered last Wednesday.😥 If anyone has any information about funeral arrangements or even an address where I can extend my condolences to his family please respond to this post or to me on messenger.

I came across my roll book from September 1992 for my first homeroom class (Class 605)! Of course it brought a smile to my face as it brought back many fond memories. 😊 However, I just had to include my four other classes as well. ❤️

Soooo... to those of you who attended Lombard in September 1992 and were in Class 606, 607, 608, or 609, if you are also present, please respond "here" or "present". (If you know someone on this roll book that hasn't answered, let them know that Mr. Footman is "taking roll" again. 🙂)

This FB post from the past popped up today, and even though I have since retired from teaching, it is still as true today as it was 6 years ago. ❤

OK. As you all know, I'm not much of a FBer; however, I have resolved to share a few thoughts and respond to some of yours more frequently as time allows.

And with that said, the first post of my return is to all my former students at Lombard Middle School. I have seen some of you in passing and have been delighted to see wonderful young men and women many of you have become and are becoming.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all you ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." -- Proverbs 3:5-6

Just a parting word, "Nobody can go back a start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending." -- Maria Robinson

You are still on my heart. 🙂

After 27 years in the classroom, I will be retiring from teaching at the end of this school year.

To ALL my former Lombard Middle students (and especially my beloved sixth graders that started with me at Lombard Middle in the Fall of 1992): as I look back over these 27 years, I can truly say that my experience with you all at Lombard was the most rewarding of my teaching career. We worked very hard, but it was certainly worth it when I see how well so many of you are doing. Please know that your teachers worked very hard to help you move forward in finding and pursuing your goals and dreams. There is a lot invested in you...please don't waste their hard work.

Lastly, I must say to all my former students that I consider myself to have been blessed to play a part in your lives. I love you all. ❤ Mr. Footman (Proverbs 3:5-6, the Bible).

A few more pictures from the Dunbar Class of '99 graduation surfaced recently and I thought I'd share them too. Truly, my time at Lombard was the best of my teaching career -- and that's due to the very special students I was blessed to cross paths with. You all will always have a special place in my heart.💗

I was able to attend the graduation ceremony of Dunbar's Class 1999 to see some of my Lombard students "walk." I came across these photos and thought I'd post them. It was so gratifying to have played a small part in preparing them for future success. (I know I have more pictures from that ceremony somewhere; when I find them , I'll be sure to post them too.)

I found a few pictures, but I can't remember what year. This had to be "Take Your Daughters to Work Day" (for those of you who can remember when that used to be an annual event). Janice (my oldest daughter) and Candice (my youngest daughter) spent a day at Lombard with me. They really enjoyed meeting "Daddy's students" and hanging out with them for the day, and you all embraced them so warmly. (Some of y'all started rubbing off on my youngest daughter. :-) )

If you recognize yourself or someone you know, be sure to tag yourself or them.

Happy New Year!!! I came across a timely quote that I thought I'd share with my "roses" :

"Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible." -- Francis of Assisi

Have a blessed and prosperous year.!
