Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard

Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard The Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard was established in 1958. Our role has multiplied tremendously. This is our most sacred of duties.

The Honor Guard was primarily established to render honors in the event of a line-of-duty-death. It is the deep history of our department which drives its members to serve so proudly for the citizens of Baltimore. Daily, our members are faced with real-life situations which could adversely affect our treasured family, homes and businesses. These same members devote time and energy to several 'extr

a curricular' entities within the Fire Department. One of these entities is the Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard. This is the essence of our existence, and role that we do not take lightly. Our role has multiplied tremendously over the years. We participate in many of the formal ceremonies of Baltimore City Fire Department, such as the Memorial Service, Medals Day Ceremony and Graduation Ceremonies. We will participate in Line of Duty ceremonies for members of the Public Safety community, as well as for those Active members of the BCFD. The Baltimore City Fire Department Honor Guard is now requested to perform during parades, conventions, sports events and at the request of the Executive branches of City, State and local government.

Heartbroken over the loss of BK. An incredible Fire Fighter, proud Union Brother, and part of a family whose name is woven into the history of Rescue Company 2.

From his grandfather Vincent Kilduff’s line-of-duty death in 1971, to his father Bobby Kilduff Sr.’s sacrifice from occupational cancer, the Kilduff family gave so much to this job and the City of Boston. BK carried that legacy with pride every day he wore the shield.

Keeping the Kilduff family, Rescue Company 2, and all of his Brothers and Sisters in my thoughts today.

Rest easy, Brother. 🖤🚒

It is with profound sadness that Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734 announce the passing of active member Firefighter Timothy Spielman, a member of Engine Company 20.

Brother Spielman joined the Baltimore City Fire Department on August 13, 2003, and served the citizens of Baltimore with courage, professionalism, and dedication throughout his career. His loss is deeply felt throughout our firehouse family and across the Baltimore City Fire Department. Timothy was more than a firefighter, he was a brother, a friend, and someone who answered the call to serve others every single day.

On behalf of the Executive Board and membership of Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734, we extend our deepest condolences to the Spielman family, his brothers and sisters at Engine 20, Truck 18, Medic 8, and all who knew and loved him.

Please keep Timothy’s family and our members in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, Brother. We have the watch from here.

We Shall Never Forget

On February 16, 1955, at 21:02 hours, Box 12 was sounded for a fire at the Tru-Fit Clothing Company, 507–509 E. Baltimore Street, at Baltimore Street and Frederick Street in Baltimore.

At approximately 23:00 hours, a catastrophic collapse occurred, trapping several members—including Chief of Department Michael Lotz—and injuring 18 others.

Today, we pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the Line of Duty:

• Francis O’Brien, 4th Battalion Chief
• Joseph F. Hanley, Firefighter, detailed to 4th Battalion Aide
• William Barnes, Firefighter, Engine 17
• Anthony N. Reinsfelder, Firefighter, Truck 16
• Rudolph A. Machovec, Firefighter, Engine 15
• Richard F. Melzer, Firefighter, Engine 15

We honor their courage, their service, and their sacrifice. Never forgotten.

We honor and remember Commissioner Charles “Chuck” Bollack for a life defined by service, generosity, and deep love for both his family and the Baltimore City Fire Department. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to our members and our mission.

Chuck’s connection to the fire service began early as a “housecat” growing up near Engine 34. In the 1960s, he became an auxiliary firefighter at Engine Company 6, beginning a lifelong commitment to supporting Baltimore’s firefighters. He went on to serve as a Baltimore City Fire Commissioner, was appointed an Honorary Fire Chief, and remained a longstanding member of the Board of Fire Commissioners. Chuck also served as Treasurer of the Baltimore City Fire Foundation, where his leadership and generosity touched numerous members and their families who suffered line of duty injuries.

His legacy of compassion, service, and unwavering support for the Baltimore City Fire Department will never be forgotten.
