What if service became more than something you do—but a way you live?

When William joined NDMV, he was looking for direction. As an aspiring teacher pursuing his master’s degree, he wanted real-world experience before stepping into his own classroom.

What he found was so much more.

At East Boston Central Catholic School, William supported students, became a trusted role model, built relationships with families, stepped outside his comfort zone (yes, even into a T-Rex costume), and discovered the power of simply showing up.

His service year changed the way he thinks about community, empathy, and his future.

“Serving with NDMV opened up my mind to living for service.”

William’s story is a reminder that sometimes we start serving because we’re looking for what comes next—and along the way, we discover something that changes how we want to live.

The 2026-2027 service year is officially underway! We welcomed 40 volunteers this week during our first orientation, with another cohort joining us in September. We are looking forward to accompanying each of them through this transformative year of growth and service.
