Hannah Debelius, Deputy Director of the DGS Office of Energy and Sustainability, recently joined the U.S. Green Building Council’s Building Maryland’s Low-Carbon Future panel to discuss tackling carbon challenges in our state!

The conversation highlighted Maryland’s leadership in energy efficiency and clean energy, including recent investments like the State’s solar power purchase agreement, as well as how Energy Performance Contracting can be used as a tool for energy efficiency and decarbonization.

Reaching Maryland’s energy and climate goals will take collaboration across State agencies and with private-sector partners—DGS is proud to be part of that effort and help turn goals into action!

Yesterday, Secretary Chaudhry joined Lt. Governor Aruna Miller, state leaders, employers and recovery advocates for a roundtable highlighting Maryland’s progress toward expanding supportive work environments for people in recovery.

Governor Wes Moore recently signed an executive order establishing Maryland state government as a recovery-friendly workplace, requiring state agencies to provide training on substance use disorders, treatment and recovery, and how to respond to overdoses.

DGS was the first Maryland state department to adopt the Recovery-Friendly Workplace designation, and Secretary Chaudhry spoke about our proactive approach in providing employees with training, resources and support as part of this effort.

As Maryland works to make recovery-friendly practices a part of workplaces across the state, DGS is proud to continue creating a workplace where employees can find support and seek help without stigma!

On September 11, we remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage shown in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

As an agency dedicated to supporting State government operations, DGS is reminded of the importance of service, preparedness, and looking out for one another—values that guide our work every day.

We honor those we lost by continuing to serve our communities with care and purpose.
