Friends of Maryland Transit

Friends of Maryland Transit Statewide grassroots organization in support of all Maryland Transit and the people who need transit everyday. Also stopping Gov. Informing riders too! 🤯 Gov.

Hogan's massive cuts to the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) & refusal to fund the WMATA. Friends of Maryland Transit (FoMTs) is a grassroots organization committed to the support and expansion of transit throughout Maryland. This organization was started by a concerned group of citizens who ride and work in transit throughout Maryland and are worried we are losing this very essential SERVICE

(not business). Our transit system essential for millions of Marylanders including many who use the services as their only form of transportation; to reduce traffic & harmful emissions; travel between our major metropolitan areas; transportation of our seniors & persons with disabilities who are unable to drive; operators & employees who love theirs jobs serving Marylanders; those wanting to travel long distance across the state without the traffic & hours behind the wheel; those who want to avoid the costs & hassle of parking; transportation when you can't or shouldn't drive; daily commuters & those who want to avoid rush hour traffic; transportation in rural areas where there are no car services; our children going too & from school; students going to college unable to afford education & a car; transportation to & from large sporting events; looking of inexpensive transportation to save money; transportation to our government agencies & those officials who represent us; so much more & event for things we don't know yet. We will hold our elected officials accountable to ensure this service is protected and properly funded:
Especially Gov. Hogan and his cronies who seem to be determined to dismantle all transit and divy up what's left to those you donated to his campaign. Make sure riders are informed of these changes which his administration feels they don't even need to inform. Show their lack of interest to keep riders safe during a pandemic. Last we check our transit system doesn't belong to the people of Maryland not to Larry Hogan and his friends to do with as they please. We will make Hogan listen and demand he fully fund Transit, all projects which he gutted after we had them funded, and continue the expansion of transit to our State can continue to grow. We will make sure in the future Hogan has to adequately inform and gain input from those who need the services that transit provides. Not simply say he consulted the people, then proceed to tell us what is best for the people of Maryland. Hold Hogan accountable for misuse of funds earmarked for transit projects, using a pandemic to further his agenda to cut and privatize transit, and the endangering the lives of Marylanders because he doesn't want to fund cleaning of busses and trains. Remind him you can't tell us to only use transit for essential travel then turn around and that no is using transit or that it's operating in the "red." Larry Hogan you're the Governor of all Marylanders not just those who don't use transit. The MTA and WMATA are services not a business and certainly not yours to do with as you please. Hogan seems to be no better than Trump lying and misleading us to further his own agenda. We ask all those who support transit in Maryland to support this organization. If you don't use transit I'm sure you have family and friends that do and you should support them. So Like, Follow, Share, and support us financially, if you are able, if you want to see transit survive and grow into the future.

Governor Larry Hogan is at it again trying to destroy and privatize Transit in Maryland! Yesterday he Vetoed the Transit Safety and Investment Act. Overcrowded and fewer busses, fewer MARC trains, fewer commuter busses are on the way. Then he'll get his buddies to buy the MTA from Maryland so they can make a profit off of you and end public transit all before he runs for President. Guess he wants to Make Maryland Great Again!?

The Democratic-majority Maryland legislature has enough votes to override many of the vetoes in January.

On June 25, 2015, Gov. Larry Hogan did irreparable harm to Baltimore when he canceled the Red Line, Baltimore’s planned east-west rail line. Not only would the Red Line have brought hope to communities in the Black Butterfly by making more jobs accessible within a reasonable commute, but the trans...

Since Governor Larry Hogan likes to share the The Capital’s rejection of Question 1. Both of which are out of touch with Marylanders. We would like to share the Washington Post’s endorsement of : “Question 1 would grant state lawmakers the same budgetary powers enjoyed by their counterparts elsewhere — namely, to shift and target spending priorities.”

Of which we would like to add this is what will help stop the Governor from using the State Budget to gut programs and essential services. Usually on programs and services Gov. Hogan disagrees with you on and doesn’t think you should have. There is plenty of money to fund these services Marylanders rely on every day, in fact they should be a priority. There would also be more money for transit if Gov. Hogan stops giving handouts to his campaign donors. Like with the outsourced MTA Commuter Bus services which had been mismanaged by Dillon’s Bus Services through Coach USA and their fleet of new buses should never been government subsidized at all. That’s a lot of money folks and very well be where some of the funding ended up ultimately. We need more protections against rogue behavior from our governor and the MGA represents the people and they should have a say. As should all the people

PS - Posting this article is not an endorsement and we take no position on Question 2 because we know many have questions on the limits where sports betting will take place. Though we support finding new ways to generate revenue to help support our essential services. Please read both and make your decision but don’t skip voting on ballot measures.

Questions 1 and 2 would bring the state into the modern era legislatively.

No Governor Larry Hogan voting NO would only allow you to continue to cut essential services like Public Transit! Transit is on the ballot this year even if it’s not always obvious. During the past six years Hogan has been fighting his only little personal war against transit. Most recently trying to gut the MTA only reversing it after multiple Mayors, County Executives, transit organizations, and public outcry. Yet he can still make existing COVID reductions. The MGA represents the people and should have an ability to stop a roge Governor who has forgotten what it means to represent all people.

One of the more difficult choices for voters every election year involves ballot questions, and this year there are a number of state and local questions. Here are a review and our recommendations.

Council President Brandon M. Scott speaks out against Governor Larry Hogan’s lack of support for our public transit. Particularly the lack of proper funding. Brandon Scott is also running for Mayor of Baltimore, proving that Transit is always on the ballot! Hint, Hint 😉 early in person voting has already begun in !

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan joked Tuesday that perhaps his political future may involve running for Baltimore mayor.

Marcus Parks was a hero and today he was taken from us. My thoughts and prayers are with this family as they navigate this devastating time.
