In Polk County, WI, April is a time to raise awareness about how communities can work together to help children grow up in safe, supportive environments. The Polk County Citizen Review Panel is highlighting the importance of strong families, informed communities, and local systems working together.
Child abuse can appear in different ways, and recognizing general warning signs—such as sudden changes in behavior or unmet basic needs—can help identify when a child or family may benefit from support. These signs do not necessarily mean abuse is occurring; they simply indicate that attention or assistance may be helpful.
Everyone can play a part in strengthening families. Small actions, like checking in with people you know, offering assistance to parents and caregivers, building positive relationships with children, and reporting concerns when something doesn’t seem right, all contribute to a safer community.
The Polk County Citizen Review Panel brings together professionals and community members to strengthen how local systems respond to child welfare concerns and to support families across the county.
