Sad to announce a dear friend Carmen Sanchez passed away recently. Carmen has been a friend and Vendor for us in our Rock Shop for almost 15 years. I met Brian, Carmens son, when he was just a youngster and watched him grow into a wonderful young man. To know Carmen, Martina his wife and his son Bryan is to love them.
If you looked up friend in the dictionary you will find a picture of Carmen next to the definition. One day there was a dog walking down State Street here in Fort Davis. It looked like the dog was on his last legs. Carmen reached into his pickup, got a sandwich and gave him half of it. The dog ate it and then just stood there looking wantingly at Carmen. Carmen stood there looking back at the dog for a few seconds, then he broke down and gave the dog the other half of the sandwich. I suppose he decided the dog needed lunch more than he did.
A man that would do that you know, would go out of his way to help anyone or anything. Once we picked out a little more minerals and rock than we had money to pay for it. As we started to load it all back into his truck, he said stop. You can pay me the next time I come. It was a month or six weeks before he returned. Carmen never mentioned the monies due; we just quietly wrote it into the bill and no more was ever said about it.
If I was ever in need, I would hope there was someone like Carmen around to holler to help me out. He was taken from us far too early, but I guess the Great Spirit needed someone to help him. Carmen will be standing there ready to get to work on whatever he may need.
When I get the date, time and place of his service I will post that, or you all can message me for their mailing address and info.
