City of Ballwin, MO - Government This is the official page for the City of Ballwin, Missouri. We welcome input from all.

The City of Ballwin was founded by John Ball, who officially named the city “Ballwin” on February 9, 1837. In the years that followed, Ballwin grew from the town Ball knew, with only a few homes and businesses, to a small village of 750 people when it was incorporated on December 29, 1950. Today, it’s home to a dynamic, thriving community of more than 30,000 and is a great place to live, work, pla

y, and learn. The City consists of four major departments: Administration, Public Works, Police, and Parks & Recreation.

📣Just a reminder:📣

As noted in our City newsletters and Ballwin Life Magazine, the City of Ballwin's Public Works Department is NOT fogging for mosquitos this year.

For several years, the Public Works Department provided a weekly application of mosquito adulticide control spray in residential areas throughout the City from late May to mid-September.

In August 2025, the Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to discontinue this service. They noted adulticide services were not effective in reducing the mosquito population and instead harmed other, beneficial insects.

The City does still contract with St. Louis County Vector Control Services for control of mosquito larvae, and those trucks will fog if trap sites collect high numbers of larvae.

To reduce mosquitos in your yard:
• Keep your lawns mowed and rain gutters clean
• Remove standing water on your private property
• Once a week, empty and scrub, turn over, cover, or throw out any items that hold water like tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, or trash containers. Mosquitoes lay eggs near water.
• Don’t let water accumulate in rain gutters, piles of leaves, or in vegetation
• Remove sources of standing water in and around your home in plant pot saucers, pool tarps, etc.
• Tightly cover water storage containers (rain barrels, etc.)
• For containers without lids, use wire mesh with holes smaller than an adult mosquito

Make sure to take a look around your yard for any litter or standing water!

Did you know that a couple pieces of litter on your property could be breeding mosquitoes? Even a bottle cap can hold enough water for mosquitoes to breed in. At least once a week, walk through your yard and pick up any pieces of litter that may have ended up there.
