Food That Feels Like Home

Did you know that every Monday from May through October, LifeWorks Community Action’s Food Programs and Immigrant Services teams provide fresh food and culturally appropriate groceries to workers at the Saratoga Race Course?

Along with fresh produce and other essentials, distributions include foods such as tortillas, salsa, jalapeños and other familiar ingredients that allow track workers to prepare meals that reflect their cultures and traditions.

For individuals spending months away from their homes and families, having access to familiar foods can provide more than nourishment—it can offer a small but meaningful sense of comfort and connection to home.

Each season, hundreds of workers come to Saratoga and play an essential role in the racing industry that is so important to our community. We’re proud to be there for them with food, resources and support throughout the season.

This work is made possible in part through the generous support of the Hispanic Federation. Thank you for helping us ensure our neighbors have access to food that meets their needs and honors their cultures.

Celebrating Our Skidmore College See-Beyond Intern, Alexandra Lopez!

LifeWorks Community Action is grateful to Skidmore College and the See-Beyond Grant for supporting student intern Alexandra Lopez and her work with our Immigrant Services Department.

Throughout her internship, Alexandra worked alongside our team at the Saratoga Race Course, providing hands-on support to the immigrant community through weekly food distributions, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, case management, and other direct services.

Her dedication helped increase our capacity during one of our busiest times of the year. Each season, LifeWorks Immigrant Services serves approximately 300–500 individuals at the track, connecting people with food, resources, education, and support.

Alexandra brought energy, compassion, and a willingness to jump in wherever she was needed. We are so thankful for her contributions and for Skidmore College’s investment in meaningful, community-based learning.

Thank you, Alex, for your dedication to our immigrant community! We wish you all the best as you continue your college journey.

Thank You, Hannaford Helps — and Our Community!

LifeWorks Community Action is incredibly grateful to Hannaford Helps and our local Hannaford Supermarkets stores for their generous support of our Food Programs.

Our food pantry is serving more individuals and families than ever, and support like this makes a meaningful difference. Community donations and partnerships help us keep our shelves stocked and ensure that when a neighbor comes to us for food, we can be there to help.

We are so thankful to Hannaford and to everyone in our community whose generosity makes this support possible. Together, we’re helping our neighbors put food on the table and strengthening our community, one family at a time.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Consulate General of Mexico to LifeWorks Community Action this past Friday!

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the Mexican Consulate as they provide important resources, information and consular services to members of our Mexican communities throughout Saratoga, Washington and Warren counties.

Partnerships like this help connect individuals and families with trusted services and support—right here in the communities where they live and work.

LifeWorks Community Action’s Energy Services team will be at Congressman Paul Tonko’s Capital Region Housing Expo this evening, connecting residents with information and resources.

The Housing Expo will bring together community organizations offering information on homeownership, rental assistance, housing resources and more.
