Today, we remember and honor the lives of Lieutenant Michael Hoosock and Officer Michael Jensen, who were tragically taken in the line of duty two years ago.

Their bravery and commitment to serving others represent the very best of our profession. They answered the call without hesitation, putting the safety of their community above all else.

Here in Baldwinsville, we take a moment to reflect on their sacrifice and the impact they continue to have on the law enforcement community. Their dedication serves as a lasting reminder of why we wear the badge and the responsibility that comes with it.

Rest easy, Lieutenant Hoosock and Officer Jensen. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

🚔Over the next month you will see officers switching to different patches on their uniforms. 🚨

The Baldwinsville Police Department patch is rich with symbolism that reflects the specific history, geography, and values of the village in Central New York.

Here is a breakdown of the meaning behind the different elements:

1. The Arch Bridge
The most prominent feature in the center is the arch bridge spanning over water. This represents the iconic bridge over the Seneca River, which flows through the heart of the village. It symbolizes the connection between the two sides of the community and the village’s identity as a historic river town.

2. The Seneca River
The blue wavy lines beneath the bridge represent the Seneca River. Historically, the river and the New York State Barge Canal (part of the Erie Canal system) were the lifeblood of Baldwinsville’s industry and remains a central part of its recreation and beauty today.

3. "Service with Understanding"
This is the department's motto. It signifies a philosophy of community policing where officers aim to be empathetic and approachable. It suggests that law enforcement isn't just about "rules," but about understanding the human element of the community they serve.

4. The American Flag
The stars and stripes in the upper half of the inner circle represent patriotism and the department’s commitment to upholding the laws and freedoms of the United States.

5. "1851"
This marks the year the Village of Baldwinsville Police was officially incorporated. Including this date emphasizes the long-standing history, tradition, and stability of the community.

6. The Shield Shape and Colors
• The Shield: A universal symbol of protection and the "guardian" role of law enforcement.
• Navy Blue & Gold: These are traditional colors for police departments, representing authority, professionalism, and excellence

👀We had some fun with this trend but the message is serious.👀

Put the phone down while driving. A quick text, scroll, or glance can change everything in an instant. No message is worth a crash, an injury, or a life.

So here’s your reminder:
📵 Phone down
🚗 Eyes up
🛣️ Focus on the road

We’ll be out there doing our job… and yes, we’re watching. 🚔 “Put the phone away or pay”

🐰 Suspicious Incident early this morning 🐰

This morning, the Baldwinsville Police Department was dispatched for a suspicious individual. Upon arrival, officers detained one Peter Cottontail.

After a brief investigation, it was discovered that Cottontail had been sneaking into homes to deliver Easter baskets to the children of Baldwinsville. No charges were filed, and Cottontail was released without incident.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy Easter! 🌷🥚
