After much consideration at the April meeting, it was voted to not have our annual June chicken barbecue. If you see this and normally bring pies or have a neighbor that you can pass the message along to that does, we will not be needing pies in June. We will place our focus on the August homecoming chicken barbecue and appreciate your support for then!

The Ohio State Fire Marshal has issued a burn ban in the following counties - Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Fairfield, Fayette, Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Jefferson, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Perry, Pickaway, Pike, Ross, Scioto, Tuscarawas, Vinton and Washington. Examples of outdoor activities prohibited by this order in the ban area include the following:

- lighting or maintaining a fire of any type at any location
- smoking (including ci******es or similar devices, and as part of a cooking process)
- non-electric cooking (regardless of fuel source)
- using or discharging any type of fireworks
- throwing down/discarding lighted or smoldering material (including matches or ci******es)
- campfires
- bonfires
- live fire training events
- flame effect(s) based displays or exhibitions (including sky lanterns and cold spark machines)
- using spark causing devices for recreational purposes

On Saturday, April 27th, we coordinated a propane training alongside West Lafayette Fire Department and Stonecreek Fire Department, which proved to be highly effective. We appreciate the engagement of all participants and extend our thanks to TMK Bakersville/Valley Propane for their sponsorship. We also recognize the efforts of Safety Training & More LLC in providing expert training.

We'd like to thank all of our community members and sponsors for your continued support at this year's homecoming. Special thanks to everyone who volunteered their time and donations, making this years homecoming successful and fun. Thanks to Gerald Hothem and the bbq crew, ridgewood ffa and progressive livestock 4-h for helping out wherever needed. Thanks to Tom Hawk, Bud Hawk Arena, Larry Stahl and the track crew, the Spillman family, Harvest Barn, River Valley Antique Tractor Pullers, and Jeff Burton for putting on a great tractor pull. A lot of time, effort and resources go into putting on a pull of that size. Thanks to everyone who supported the Bakersville Community Park and the Dead Weight Tractor Pull Committee Members and Volunteers on Saturday and Sunday. From everyone at the Bakersville Community Volunteer Fire Department, we thank you and hope to see you all next year!

A home fire is reported every 88 seconds. Once the smoke alarm sounds, a fire can spread quickly, leaving only a minute or two to escape. That's why it's so important to have a home escape plan. Everyone needs to know your family escape plan in case of a fire, including any guests!
