Jose Gomez’s journey is a powerful reminder that growth, accountability, and perseverance can transform lives. Since enrolling in the AB-109 ‘s Adult Program Center (APC), Jose has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his recovery, personal development, and future goals.
Jose has completed Aggression Replacement Training (ART), currently enrolled and scheduled to complete Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) and Thinking for a Change (T4C) while maintaining perfect attendance in programming and working towards graduating in June 2026.
Jose shared that before entering the program, he struggled with being around others after incarceration. Through APC, he found support, connection, and the courage to continue pushing forward. Now, with over 18 months sober, he continues to build healthy coping skills, set SMART goals, and remain accountable in his journey. His motivation is rooted in becoming the best version of himself and proving how far he can go through sobriety, education, and hard work. Jose hopes to continue his education, pursue meaningful employment, and one day become part of the APC mentorship program to help others walk a similar path. One quote that continues to inspire him: “You can’t sell elevation to someone addicted to excuses because if you’re addicted to excuses, you won’t be able to grow.”
Jose also left us with a message that speaks volumes about compassion and human connection: “The simple gesture of a handshake makes a world difference to a person.”
