Today marked a significant milestone for the Bakersfield Senior Center Affordable Housing & Facility (BSH) project as community leaders, partners, stakeholders, and community members gathered to celebrate the official groundbreaking ceremony. Despite the intense summer heat, the event was exceptionally well attended, reflecting the community's enthusiasm and strong support for this transformative development. The ceremony was led by Stephen Pelz, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of the County of Kern, who welcomed guests and guided the program as speakers shared their excitement for the project. Distinguished speakers included Congressman David G. Valadao, Mayor Karen Goh, Lilli Parker - Executive Director for the Bakersfield Senior Center, Councilmember Eric Arias, Councilmember Andrae Gonzales, and other community leaders, all of whom recognized the importance of this investment and its positive impact on the community’s future.
BSH will feature a community-centered senior facility and 36 affordable apartments homes. With an anticipated 19-month construction schedule, the BSH Project represents a significant investment in the community, bringing affordable housing, and lasting benefits for seniors in Southeast Bakersfield. Today's groundbreaking not only celebrated the start of construction but also the promise of a stronger and more vibrant future.
