As we head into Labor Day weekend, the California Highway Patrol will begin a Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (9/4) and continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday (9/7).

During the HEP, CHP officers will be out in force with a strong focus on removing impaired drivers from our roadways. If your Labor Day plans include alcohol, plan ahead and designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or arrange for a safe ride home.

A DUI is completely preventable. Don’t risk your life or the lives of others by driving impaired.

Please buckle up, obey posted speed limits, eliminate distractions, and drive responsibly.

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend and help us make sure everyone gets home safely.

FRIENDLY REMINDER ❗️

STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES 🚌

School bus stops can be a time-consuming procedure. School bus drivers have specific requirements during the pickup and drop-off process. Please have patience when encountering a stopped school bus with flashing red lights and extended stop sign.

Under CVC 22454, California law requires you remain stopped as long as the red lights on the school bus are flashing and the stop sign is extended. If you fail to stop, you may be fined up to $695 (possibly more).

The few seconds you might save is not worth it.

Let’s ensure we keep our children safe.

Stay alert, avoid distractions, and be patient.

The attached photo breaks down the drivers responsibility when approaching a stopped school bus with the lights and sign activated.

🚨 Don’t Drive Impaired🚨

One decision can change your life and lives of others. Luckily the driver of this sedan only sustained minor injuries but it could always be worse. You can go to jail, lose your license, fines, and cause a tragedy that cannot be undone.

Always designate a sober driver, call a friend, or use a rideshare option. Remember, DUI is 100 percent preventable. As your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) rises alcohol affects the brain, coordination, judgement, and vital body functions.

Drivers excuse…Late to court ❗️

Speeding reduces reaction time and increases crash severity. Speeding continues to be one of the main causes of injury and fatal crashes.

Slowing down is one of the simplest steps to protect drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and others. It can also save you from fines and court appearances. Lets work together to slow down, buckle up, and never drive impaired.

August is Back to School Safety Month. As students head back to school, let’s work together to keep every trip a safe one.

• Slow down in school zones and obey posted speed limits.
• Stop for school buses when required.
• Watch for children crossing streets.
• Put the phone away and stay focused behind the wheel.
• Give extra space to students walking or riding their bikes.

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Let’s help every student arrive safely this school year. 🚌
