The Baker City Fire Department is accepting applications to fill one career firefighter position, establish a one year career firefighter eligibility list, and to fill numerous paid part-time firefighter positions.

Applications must be submitted by 7am September 28th to be able to proceed with background checks, testing, and interviews.

2482 is currently deployed to the Fox Fire near Huntington as part of Oregon State Fire Marshal Immediate Response. Crews are assisting with structural protection along with a task force from Union County.

PRESS RELEASE:

At approximately 10:30 am this morning, the Baker City Fire Department was dispatched to a fire involving a food truck in the 2500 block of Cedar. Engine 2431, Truck 2451, and Chief 2401 responded.

Upon arrival, Chief 2401 reported a food truck with smoke coming from it and no visible flame. Engine 2431 deployed a hose line, went inside the food truck to check for any fire extension, and extinguished the hot spots. Truck 2451 was returned to service and was response-ready on scene.

Thanks to the quick thinking and actions of bystanders and the owner, the fire was nearly extinguished upon the Fire Department’s arrival, with the fire extending into the insulation and structural members of the food truck's roof.

It took 17 minutes and 7 firefighters to ensure that the fire was out. There were no injuries reported. Damage to the food truck was minimal. The cause of the fire was determined to be a cooking fire caused by a grease spill.
