The Bainbridge Fire Department is proud to announce the acquisition of new ballistic protection vests, funded in part by the Public Entities Pool (PEP) Grant. This critical investment in personnel safety ensures that our first responders are better protected while serving the community in increasingly complex emergency environments.

Each of the new ballistic vests is equipped with an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK). An IFAK is a specialized, compact medical kit designed to provide immediate, life-saving trauma care—such as hemorrhage control—to an individual in the field before additional medical support can arrive.

The acquisition of this equipment is a vital component in the formal establishment and implementation of our department’s Rescue Task Force (RTF). An RTF is a specially trained team of firefighters and EMS providers who, equipped with ballistic protection, are able to enter "warm zones" alongside law enforcement. This allows our personnel to provide rapid medical treatment and stabilization to victims in volatile or high-threat situations much sooner than previously possible.

The safety of our residents and our responders is our highest priority. By providing this protective gear and implementing the RTF model, we are significantly enhancing our ability to save lives during active-threat incidents.

All three of our department’s ambulances will be fully equipped with this new equipment, ensuring that these life-saving tools are available across our entire service area.

EMS Week is a time dedicated to honoring the men and women who provide lifesaving care on the front lines of our community. Our EMS providers are more than just first responders; they are dedicated professionals who offer hope and medical expertise during our citizens' most vulnerable moments.

This week serves as a reminder of the significant sacrifices our EMS providers make. They consistently work long hours, missing time with their families and sacrificing sleep to ensure that help is available 24/7. Beyond the physical demands, they navigate high-stress environments and face emotional challenges with unwavering resilience and compassion. Their commitment to the safety and well-being of Bainbridge is truly commendable.

Please join us in thanking our EMS Division for their selflessness and their vital service to our community.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local EMS Providers Recognized for Excellence in Prehospital Stroke Care

Bainbridge, OH April 30, 2026 — We are proud to recognize Asst. Chief Brandon Robinson and FF/EMT Allison Morris for their exceptional performance and dedication to patient care. On February 10, 2026, the crew was dispatched to an emergency where they quickly identified a patient exhibiting signs of a stroke.

Following established standards of care and clinical best practices, Robinson and Morris made the critical decision to utilize air medical transport. This facilitated the rapid transfer of the patient to a comprehensive stroke center, which was vital as the patient was later diagnosed with a large vessel occlusion.

Upon arrival at the Ohio State University (OSU) Wexner Medical Center, the surgical team led by Dr. Youssef performed a successful thrombectomy. The crew’s swift action and decision to prioritize prompt, specialized transport resulted in a phenomenal outcome for the patient.

Yesterday, the OSU Stroke Team honored the crew for their life-saving efforts. Brandon Robinson and Allison Morris were presented with Stroke Champion Awards by Cassie Forrest (OSU Stroke Program Manager), Dr. Youssef (OSU Neurosurgeon), and Michael Duncan (OSU Center for EMS).

This case serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of rapid stroke care. When it comes to stroke treatment, every second counts, and the expertise demonstrated by our providers ensures that patients in our community receive the best possible chance at recovery.

Congratulations to Brandon and Allison on this well-deserved recognition!

Congratulations to Branson Leisure from Adena Health Greenfield Medical Center on your 2026 OHA Health Care Worker of the Year nomination!

Branson has built his life around one purpose: protecting the people he cares about. As team lead sergeant for Safety and Security at Adena Greenfield Medical Center and as the chief of the Bainbridge Fire Department, he carries the responsibility of his community on his shoulders every day. In both roles, he is the steady, reassuring presence people count on in their most vulnerable moments — the moments when safety stops being an abstract concept and becomes deeply personal.

Our crews recently participated in an acquired structure live burn training sponsored by Paint Creek Joint EMS & Fire District.

An acquired structure is a building, often slated for demolition or donated, used by firefighters for high-value, realistic training.
This training provided hands-on experience in real-world scenarios—such as navigating unfamiliar layouts, manage smoke-filled conditions, practice of hose deployment, & ventilation.

Thank you to PCJEFD for allowing us to participate!
