Please help us welcome Ms.Avery to the Bearcat Family! A Bainbridge native, Ms.Avery enjoys cooking, painting, reading, and swimming in her free time. She says her favorite thing about Decatur County is the encouragement and support that make it such a welcoming place. A fun fact about Ms.Avery is that she loves working with elementary students and helping them learn and grow. We're excited to have Ms.Avery on our team and look forward to the positive impact she'll make this school year!

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Decatur County Schools is honored to help share the story of one of our DCS families. 💛🎗️

A family recently reached out to share Aliyah’s journey with our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize her incredible courage and strength and to join her family in raising awareness for childhood cancer.

Aliyah’s Journey 💛🎗️

In January 2025, at just 3 years old, our sweet Aliyah was diagnosed with B- Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In an instant, our lives changed. What followed were hospital visits, medications, procedures, long days, difficult moments, and experiences no child should ever have to face.

Today, Aliyah is 5 years old and in month 19 of her two-year treatment journey. 🎗️

Through it all, she has shown us just how much strength can live inside such a little person. There have been hard days, scary days, tears, and many adjustments, but Aliyah continues to smile, play, learn, grow, and simply be the amazing little girl she is.

Cancer is part of Aliyah’s story, but it does not define who she is. She is a daughter, a sister, a student, a friend, and one of the strongest little girls we know.

As we recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, our family is incredibly grateful for every doctor, nurse, teacher, family member, friend, and supporter who has helped Aliyah along this journey. We are also thinking of every child and family who has heard the words, “Your child has cancer.”

Aliyah still has a little more of her treatment journey ahead of her, but she has already come so far. We are so proud of our brave girl and look forward to the day we can celebrate the completion of her treatment.

Keep fighting, Aliyah. Your courage shines brighter than gold. 💛🎗️

WE Are Bainbridge.

Last week, Decatur County Schools had the privilege of presenting the September Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, and what a great day it was to be a Bearcat!

From the moment guests arrived, The Bearcat Way was on full display.

BHS Band students welcomed guests outside the Kirbo Center. Buddy the Bearcat greeted attendees. Student ambassadors welcomed and directed guests, served and assisted in the food line, and interacted directly with Chamber members and community leaders. RobotCat was in the lobby shaking hands and showcasing technology. Throughout the luncheon, images and stories of our students and schools filled the screens.

Every part of the experience had a purpose: to show, not just tell, what it means to be a Bearcat.

Our students were serving, performing, demonstrating technology, connecting with business leaders, and sharing the talents and skills they are developing every day.

Decatur County Schools is the public school system of Decatur County. We are the public, and we give what no one else can.

We bring together students from across our community and provide opportunities through Academics, Arts, and Athletics that allow them to discover their strengths, develop their talents, find where they belong, and prepare for what comes next.

And what comes next matters to all of us.

The students in our schools today are the workforce, business owners, educators, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, artists, leaders, and neighbors of tomorrow. When we invest in their education and their opportunities, we are investing in the future of Bainbridge and Decatur County.

That is why the relationship between our public schools and our community matters. Thank you to our teachers, staff, administrators, students, families, Chamber members, local businesses, and community partners who continue to invest in our students and believe in what we can accomplish together.

We invite our business community to stay engaged, stay connected, and continue creating opportunities alongside us.

Strong public schools help build a strong workforce, a strong economy, and a strong Bainbridge.

WE are students.
WE are educators.
WE are families.
WE are businesses.
WE are community partners.

Together, WE Are Bainbridge.

It’s a great day to be a Bearcat!

Recently, Decatur County Schools took On the Road to Attapulgus, bringing Board of Education members, district leaders, school administrators, and community leaders together for an evening of connection and conversation.

On the Road is all about taking Decatur County Schools beyond the walls of our schools and district office and into the communities we serve. It’s an opportunity for our families and community members to connect with district leadership, learn more about our schools and programs, ask questions, and strengthen the relationships that help our students and schools thrive.

A special thank you to Dr. Crycynthia Gardner, Parent & Family Engagement Coordinator, for coordinating this event and helping create another opportunity for our district to connect with the families and communities we serve. 💜💛

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Attapulgus and to Decatur County Nutrition for providing Grab & Go meals for the evening!

We enjoyed spending time with our Attapulgus community🚌🐾
