The Bainbridge Island Fire Department, in partnership with American Legion Colin Hyde Post 172 and the Bainbridge Island Police Department, invites our community to join us for a special remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The ceremony will honor the 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers who lost their lives while responding to the attacks in New York City. They ran toward danger, answering the call to protect, serve, and save others. Their courage and sacrifice continue to resonate throughout the fire service and law enforcement communities 25 years later.

The program will include:
-Special performances by the Bainbridge Chorale
-Remarks from representatives of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department
-Remarks from representatives of the Bainbridge Island Police Department
-Personal reflections from Earl Johnson, a 9/11 survivor and former Bainbridge Island Fire Department Commissioner

We invite our community to gather with us as we remember those we lost, honor their service and sacrifice, and reflect on the enduring courage of those who answered the call that day.

The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Parking: Additional parking is available across the street at First Baptist Church.

Please join us in welcoming Officer Lorrin Pajimola.

Officer Lorrin Pajimola was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii. Lorrin served 5 years in the Marine Corps, earning the rank of Sergeant. He spent 2 of those years stationed at Bangor Naval Base. Officer Pajimola has spent the last 8 years working in business, most recently as an account manager.

Lorrin says the call to serve this country and its people never faded, and that desire has brought him to Bainbridge Island Police Department.

Officer Pajimola enjoys playing soccer, hiking and simply sitting water side and enjoying the views of this wonderful state in his free time.

Lorrin will attend the Basic Law Enforcement Academy in the fall.

Please join us in congratulating our newest marine officers, Officer Daog and Officer Pepicelli, who recently completed their Basic Marine Law Enforcement and vessel operations training! All BIPD boat operators complete rigorous training covering vessel safety, open-water survival, and maritime laws.

With miles of island coastline to protect, our team works around the clock to ensure safe boating, manage local waters, and respond to emergencies. Keep an eye out for them patrolling the water—and remember to always wear your life jacket! 🛟

National Night Out Cancelled (8/4) due to unhealthy air quality conditions
The City of Bainbridge Island National Night Out event, scheduled for tonight at Waterfront Park, has been cancelled due to unhealthy air quality conditions. We look forward to seeing everyone next year.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) for Bainbridge Island is expected to be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups to Unhealthy for All this afternoon into this evening.

Take steps now to protect yourself, your family, and our community.

- Stay informed and check your local air quality before spending time outdoors https://map.pscleanair.gov/
- Reduce smoke exposure by limiting strenuous outdoor activity and consider wearing a mask over your mouth and nose, like an N95 or KN95
- Stay indoors when possible and keep windows and doors cosed.
- Use an air filter with a HEPA filter, if available
- Seek medical care if you experience difficulty breathing, chest pains, severe coughing, or worsening asthma symptoms
