Join the Bainbridge Island Fire Department at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 11th, at Nolta Loop NE for a special street dedication ceremony honoring Assistant Chief Gary Nolta.

Assistant Chief Nolta proudly served the Bainbridge Island Fire Department for 59 years and exemplified BIFD’s core values of compassion, trust, stewardship, innovation, and courage. Following his passing in 2022, the Department wanted to honor his lasting impact on the fire service and the Bainbridge Island community.

We hope you will join us as we unveil a new sign recognizing Assistant Chief Nolta’s incredible legacy and lifelong dedication to our community.

We train for the moments that matter.

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department is constantly training to reduce the time between a 911 dispatch and crews completing a primary search to get an “all clear” during a structure fire. In the fire service, this is known as maintaining an aggressive search culture.

Over the last month, crews have been honing these critical life-saving skills in donated structures at Woodward Middle School. Fire suppression and primary search remain core missions of every Fire Department, and realistic training like this helps ensure firefighters are prepared when seconds count.

Please note there were no incidents or injuries during this training series.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and BIFD would like to highlight the importance of taking time to focus on what you need to keep your mental health a top priority.

BIFD takes our responders' mental health very seriously and supports a progressive Peer Support program. Peer Support Team members are trained in critical incident identification and intervention. Their goal is to foster a culture of resilience while maintaining an accepting, vulnerable atmosphere for responders to engage in difficult conversations about what may be ailing them.

Last month, our crews responded to 301 calls for service across the community. Emergency medical aid continues to account for the majority of our work. No matter the call, our crews are ready 24/7 to respond when our community needs help.
