This Memorial Day, the National League of POW/MIA Families solemnly honors all Americans who gave their life in service to this country.

We not only remember them today, but also strive to honor them through our deeds every day. We recognize their names, their sacrifice, and live by the promise that they, too, will never be forgotten.

To all the families who carry the weight of loss or uncertainty: you are not alone. May you continue to stand as a pillar of resilience for the people of our nation.

Thank you to the great people of Brainerd, Minnesota!

Last week, our Executive Director had the privilege of joining in a military appreciation event hosted by Brainerd VFW and organized with great passion by Mrs. Ebertowski.

It was a meaningful opportunity to for our Executive Director to speak about the history of the accounting mission, the origins of the League, the legacy of the , and where the pursuit of the stands today.

We were honored to speak alongside Freedom Flight, Inc. "The POW-MIA Hot Air Balloon Team" and the Crow Wing County Historical Society - both organizations doing important work to spread awareness as well as preserve and honor military service.

We thank all who attended for the warm welcome and keeping this mission close to your hearts - we are delighted to see communities like Brainerd carrying the torch to ensure that those who served are

from the League archive:

November 1973. Nearly a year after the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, thousands of Americans remained classified as missing and unaccounted for.

Article 8(b) of the agreement explicitly called for the of American servicemen and civilians, but progress was stagnant. To continue pushing for awareness, the League organized a "Run for Freedom" - a simultaneous relay across the country. Runners would carry the US and /MIA Flag, along with an engraved bracelet, to present to mayors, governors, or the President.

As of the time of writing, nearly 51 years later, 1,566 Americans are still listed as missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War.

Speaking from Bangkok were two reprentatives from the League, joining the official US government delegation to . At that time, the first diplomatic dialogues on accounting in Southeast Asia were developing. The League was the only independent and civilian organization allowed on the delegations.

This was not just a ceremonial role - the families were at the table because they had been pressing both the US and foreign governments for serious efforts to investigate and account for our missing servicemen and civilians. Then and now, we are powered by the persistance, advocacy, and sense of duty of the families. Many still wait for answers, and an end to their uncertainty.

Last Thursday, League representatives participated in on Capitol Hill. We are grateful for all the guests and staffers who stopped by to learn more.

Our discussions focused on Accounting and its foundational role in building bilateral cooperation alongside and awareness and remediation efforts in Southeast Asia. The accounting mission is about pursuing answers for our servicemembers and their families, but its impact has shaped efforts across the world today.

A special thanks to PeaceTrees VietNam for graciously donating table space to us. We look forward to future public engagments and conversations!

from our archive:
"POW or MIA? When Will She Know?"

This poster, c.1970, was produced by VIVA - Voices in Vital America - the student led organization best remembered for the POW/MIA Awareness bracelet program. The stainless steel was engraved with a service member's name and the date they went missing. More than 4 million were distributed across the country.

The woman in the poster wasn't just a symbol. She was someone's wife, mother, or sister - waiting for an end to the pain of uncertainty. Thousands of American families were waiting for answers then, and many still wait today.

April 9, National Former POW Recognition Day, we wanted to share this from our archive -

A pamphlet, c.1970. The question it asked was not rhetorical - "Have you forgotten them? - it was directed to ensure that our nation bring attention to the conditions of POWs in Vietnam, and take action to provide answers to the families of those unaccounted for. More than 50 years later, families still wait for answers.

We also remember the many who never returned, and their families and brothers-in-arms who have spent decades waiting for answers.
