Trudy has served Sanilac County as Treasurer for more than 14 years, and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside her and, more importantly, call her a friend.

I support getting to the bottom of how citizen-driven petitions are handled in Michigan. Voters deserve a transparent and accountable process, especially when hundreds of thousands of Michiganders have signed a petition.
I look forward to seeing the Select Committee do its work and finding the answers.

Speaker Pro Tem and former election clerk Rachelle Smit (R-Martin) is ready to get to work on the Select Committee on the Rules and Procedures of the Board of Elections and the Board of State Canvassers, investigating how the Board was able to silence the voices of three quarters of a million Michiganders who signed a petition to ensure ONLY CITIZENS CAN VOTE in Michigan elections.

We're going to get to the bottom of this.

It was an honor last night to recognize the Eager family and the legacy of Jeff Eager, who passed away following a long battle with cancer.

Jeff dedicated his life to farming, serving Michigan agriculture, and helping fellow farmers through his years with Pioneer. His knowledge, integrity, and commitment to his community left a lasting impact.

I was honored to present this tribute to Corinne and the Eager family in recognition of Jeff’s life, service, and contributions to Michigan agriculture.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Eager family.

The first step is done. Yesterday, I voted YES to get big money out of Michigan politics.

Thousands of Michiganders signed petitions supporting the MOP UP Michigan initiative because they want greater transparency and confidence in how government decisions are made.
Once the signatures were certified, the Legislature had 40 session days to either enact the proposal exactly as submitted or decline to act. If the Legislature did not enact it within that window, then it would go to Michigan voters at the November election. I believe we should take that responsibility seriously.
This proposal prohibits regulated utilities and large government contractors from making political contributions to the elected officials responsible for decisions affecting their businesses. It also strengthens transparency requirements so voters have a better idea who is paying for political advertising.

Campaign contributions do not determine how I vote, but I do understand why people are concerned about the amount of money flowing into politics from companies that do business with or are regulated by the state. The public should have confidence that decisions in Lansing are being made based on what is best for Michigan.

The Michigan House has done its part. I voted YES. Now it moves to the Senate, and I hope they will do the same.

Today I joined Rep. Joseph Pavlov and House Agriculture Committee Chair Jerry Neyer at the Lewis Farm in St. Clair County for an agriculture town hall.

It was a great opportunity to hear directly from farmers and agricultural leaders about the challenges they are facing and what we can do in Lansing to support Michigan agriculture.

Agriculture is a critical part of our economy and our communities, and conversations like these help make sure we are focused on the issues that matter most to the people working the land every day.

It was a pleasure to join the Michigan Corn Growers Association for the Between the Rows Tour in Ubly.

Thank you to the Michigan Corn Growers, the Holbrook family for hosting, Nutrien Ag Solutions, POET-Caro, the USDA Farm Service Agency, and the Sanilac FFA Chapter for putting together a great event. It was a great opportunity to hear directly from the people who keep Michigan agriculture strong and discuss the issues that matter most to our farming communities.
Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and I'll continue working to support policies that create new markets, strengthen family farms, and keep our rural communities thriving.

One non-eligible vote is too many. Local races and issues are decided by only a few dozen votes. People throughout the state should be able to have faith in our election process and that their vote is being counted freely and fairly among other eligible voters. We have seen several instances where that trust has been violated with non-citizens voting.

“Repeatedly, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has claimed that this isn’t an issue and that our elections are safe and secure. But non-citizen voters are having their votes counted in our elections and more are trying," Alexander said. "We need reforms to ensure that they aren’t counted."
