As of Tuesday evening, in coordination with the State Water Resources Control Board and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the city of Sierra Madre are advising residents on and north of Grandview Avenue that were in evacuation order zones NOT TO USE THE TAP WATER FOR DRINKING AND COOKING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

The City of Sierra Madre never lost system pressure and did not suffer any damage to its critical water infrastructure during the Eaton Fire. The city has conducted an initial assessment of the water system with routine bacteriological samples taken throughout the system. All samples were analyzed by a third-party certified lab and found no coliform bacteria.

This measure is out of an abundance of caution to prioritize resident's health and safety.

Follow City of Sierra Madre - Government for more updates.

Thank you to the city staff for their continued hard work to keep residents safe.

The continuation of the snowmelt and ensuing water runoff in August, coupled with increased flow of imported water into the San Gabriel Valley, precipitation created by Tropical Storm Hilary, and aggressive stormwater capture infrastructure and programs, further improved drought and water supply conditions statewide and the San Gabriel Valley.

Your August 2023 Water Supply Conditions Update:

We must remember we live in a region where most years are dry, infrastructure is aging, drought will return, and climate change makes the work of water planning and delivery challenging. The reality remains that we use more water than Mother Nature provides and if we’re not in a drought, we are probably either getting into one or recovering from one.

More details on August 2023's water supply conditions are in our monthly newsletter. https://conta.cc/3s4J2as

While Mother Nature has granted us a reprieve from the most recent drought, we must remember we live in a region where most years are dry, infrastructure is aging, drought will return and climate change makes the work of water planning and delivery challenging. The reality remains that we use more water than Mother Nature provides and if we’re not in a drought, we are probably either getting into one or recovering from one.

Thank you to City of Sierra Madre - Government for having us at the ribbon cutting of the water distribution solar project! Big shoutout to all the community leaders in your city for making it happen.

The project is estimated to offset 948,332 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy from the Water Department’s production facility. The savings account for approximately 38% of the energy use in the production and distribution of the City’s water supply. In addition, the Solar Project will eliminate 693 tons of CO2 emissions and save 1,457 barrels of oil per year.
