On this Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on the legacy of our fallen and express our deepest gratitude for their sacrifice. As a nation, we find ourselves at a historical crossroads… we cannot dishonor our fallen by turning our backs on humanity, compassion, decency, and respect… lest the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters be in vain. 40th Infantry Division California National Guard 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, California Army National Guard 1st Battalion 185th Infantry - Stryker 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team 40ID G3 40th Infantry Division Band California Army National Guard Recruiting Senator Bob Archuleta 40ID Deputy Commander Jesse Miller James Yellis Congresswoman Grace Napolitano Field Office 40 BSB - California Army National Guard

On Memorial Day, we remember our fallen brothers and sisters in arms: who they were, what they loved, what they did, and why they served. We share these memories not only to remind ourselves of the remarkable people who served before us and with us, but to carry on their legacy and honor all they fought for.

This weekend’s Air Assault Assessment highlights the professionalism within the NCO Corps and their collaboration to mission success. This assessment would not have been possible without the commitment, creativity, and personal sacrifice across the NCO Chain. We would like to recognize the CSU Fullerton ROTC Staff for their support, the 18CAV AASLT NCOIC (SFC Saldivar) for managing the program, and 224SB, 1-40CHEM CO, 143MP BN, 40BSB, and 40MP CO for participating in the first ever Air Assault Assessment in the State.
AASLT qualifies soldiers to conduct airmobile and air assault helicopter operations, including aircraft orientation; helicopter insertion; sling load operations; rappelling from buildings, cliffs and helicopters; and fast-rope techniques. It is open to men and women, the rigorous, fast-paced training is known as the 10 toughest days in the Army. Only 45-50% pass the course. 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team 1-160th Infantry Battalion Christopher Elson 40ID Deputy Commander 40 BSB - California Army National Guard 40th Infantry Division California National Guard 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, California Army National Guard 1st Battalion 185th Infantry - Stryker Bravo Company, 578th Brigade Engineer Jesse Miller Michael Marroquin Mark Browning Scott Haynes Perry Richards James Yellis 18th Cavalry Association Special Operations Detachment - North California Army National Guard Recruiting 1st Battalion, 143d Field Artillery 40th Infantry Division Band 40ID G3 49th Military Police Brigade

Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 18th Cavalry Regiment receive a joyous welcome by family and friends after being deployed since May 2023. Their deployment to Operation Spartan Shield had them participating in numerous Middle East partnerships. We owe a debt of gratitude to the families who steadfastly sacrificed in their absence. “Swift and Deadly!” Scouts Out!

Today we recognize Cavalry Soldiers who achieved and exceeded expectations while deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield. 18CAV Soldiers successfully attained their AASLT qualifications and earned Distinguished Shooter Badges (3 of the top 10 are 18CAV). Not only did these Soldiers deploy into harms way throughout the Middle East (Iraq, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea), but they also stepped forward when opportunities became available and succeeded! Now that’s a Warrior Ethos! “Swift and Deadly!”

Apache Troop, 18th Cavalry enhances room clearing tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) with simunitions while deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield. In these photos, Troops use simunitions. Munitions that are the most realistic and non-lethal for force-on-force training. Professionals whose lives depend on the best training possible know that they can always count on Simunitions to provide them with the most effective close-range, reality-based training system. 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 40th Infantry Division, California National Guard, 40ID Deputy Commander, 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry Regiment, California Army National Guard, 1-160th Infantry Battalion, 40 BSB - California Army National Guard, Senator Bob Archuleta.
