Ready to hit the bullseye? Join our Summer Archery Series, a fun and engaging 4-week program designed for archers ages 10 and up! Whether you're new to the sport or looking to sharpen your skills, you'll learn proper shooting form, archery safety, equipment basics, and target shooting techniques from experienced instructors.

Participants will have the opportunity to shoot both recurve and compound bows while building confidence, improving accuracy, and developing a lifelong appreciation for archery.

Spend your afternoon with us at Pecar Nature Center and create a glowing acrylic masterpiece inspired by the vibrant look of neon signs! 🖌🎆

In this fun, guided painting session, you’ll choose from five pre-made shapes of a heart, cactus, butterfly, balloon dog, and smiley face! Bring your design to life on canvas with bright, neon-style effects that really “light up” your artwork.

No experience is needed just come ready to relax, get creative, and enjoy the process. Coffee and all art materials are provided, so all you have to bring is your imagination!

Fish for Fun JUNE🐟🎣

Looking for a fun way to get outdoors and learn a new skill? Join us for Fish for Fun at Pecar Nature Center!

Designed for young anglers, this hands-on program teaches the basics of fishing while also exploring environmental stewardship and the importance of caring for our natural spaces. Whether you’re brand new to fishing or hoping to sharpen your skills, this program is a great way to learn, explore, and enjoy time outside.

Rod, reel, and lures are available to borrow just bring your excitement to learn and have fun!

We still have openings available in sessions running June through October, so there’s plenty of time to jump in and start fishing with us!

🌾 World Prairie Day at Pecar Nature Center 🌾

Celebrate World Prairie Day with us and discover one of Indiana’s most unique and endangered ecosystems!

Prairies are open grassland habitats filled with native grasses and wildflowers that support a wide variety of wildlife from pollinators like bees and butterflies to birds, small mammals, and insects. These ecosystems are incredibly important because they help improve soil health, store carbon, prevent erosion, and provide critical habitat for species that can’t survive in forests or developed areas. Today, much of Indiana’s original prairie has disappeared, making places like Pecar’s prairie especially valuable for conservation and education.

Join us for a hands-on morning filled with crafts, activities, and guided exploration of Pecar’s prairie as we learn why protecting these landscapes matters and how they continue to support biodiversity right here in our community.

Join us for a magical Firefly Night Hike as we explore the trails after dark in search of Indiana’s state insect. Watch as the woods come alive with tiny flashes of light and discover the fascinating science behind one of nature’s most incredible spectacles.

Along the way, you'll learn how and why fireflies glow, the role they play in our ecosystem, and what makes their bioluminescence so unique. This family-friendly adventure is perfect for nature lovers of all ages and offers a rare opportunity to experience Pecar Park in a whole new light or glow!

🔦 Participants are encouraged to bring a flashlight. Red film will be provided to help reduce disturbance to wildlife and make spotting fireflies even easier.

✨ Glow sticks will also be provided to add a little extra glow to your evening!

Do you love marine life, but can’t make it to the ocean this summer? Have no fear—Nile is here! This incredible 43-foot, life-sized inflatable humpback whale is swimming into Washington Township Parks for a fun and interactive educational experience. Discover the remarkable similarities between whales and humans, explore ocean science, and get hands-on with real whale artifacts during this one-of-a-kind experience for all ages! The Whalemobile

This exciting event is the kickoff to the Wild World of Nature Series, a new monthly educational program by Washington Township Parks designed to connect Hendricks County residents with nature through hands-on environmental and STEM experiences. Throughout the series, participants will enjoy engaging programs focused on wildlife rehabilitation, birds of prey, reptiles, geology, astronomy, dinosaurs, climate science, archery, STEM activities, and more—all designed to inspire curiosity, learning, and appreciation for the natural world.

Thanks to an amazing grant from the Parks Foundation of Hendricks County , the entire Wild World of Nature Series will be completely FREE for the community to enjoy! These family-friendly programs are designed for all ages and will bring unique educational experiences directly to Hendricks County all year long.
